HSE Manager, Castle Cary

Salary: £33, 000 - £41,000 (+ Bonus and Benefits)

 

 

Based in Somerset, James Wellbeloved have been making nutritionally complete pet food since 1992. We focus our attention on the unique needs of cats and dogs. We have a unique and exciting opportunity to join our Pet Nutrition factory team in Castle Cary, Somerset as our Health, Safety and Environment Manager. We are looking for a highly driven individual to work alongside our management team to develop the culture for safety across the site and engage associates.

 

The purpose of the role is to continue to develop, deploy and implement relevant Safety, Environmental and Security standards, while ensuring continuous improvement of Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Asset Conservation, Business Continuity and Site Security Management systems.

 

The expectation is that the successful candidates will be working alongside our Technical & SES Manager to establish agreed ways of working and capability at site for the first 18 months before then reporting directly to the Plant director and becoming a member of the Factory Leadership Team.

 

What are we looking for?

  • Education to degree level or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of Health, Safety & Environment legislation / NEBOSH Certificate/Diploma, IEMA Certificate is preferable OR the desire to formally train in this area.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is desirable.
  • Proven ability to engage and influence people at all levels in a business

 

 

What would be your key responsibilities?

  • Implement and maintain appropriate Mars HSE site policies and management systems.
  • Maintain oversight of changes in legislation and Mars Global Standards to ensure that appropriate action is taken at the site.
  • Develop, implement and maintain the site standards for health and safety and environmental management with particular focus on the high risk areas; machinery safety, work at height, workplace transport and contractor and construction management.
  • Define and maintain the plant emergency procedures and ensure they link to the business continuity and crisis management standards at the site.
  • Lead all site HSE audit programmes to ensure compliance with corporate and legislative/regulatory requirements and hold individuals to account to close all actions on gap closure.  Train and maintain all internal audit capabilities.
  • Provide technical expertise in ensuring incidents are effectively and systematically investigated, suitably analysed and relevant preventive actions are defined, communicated and implemented.
  • Implement the site security management system, lead the site security activities and identify and coordinate security improvements on site.
  • Provide training and education opportunities for site associates that will drive the sustainability and improvement of Safety, Environment and Security programs.
