HTS is the only department within our world-leading pharmaceutical business that focuses unequivocally on Hit identification. Our HTS Centre aids the definition of screening cascades in discovery programmes, uses cutting-edge assay technologies to generate high-quality screening data and delivers robust data packages to pursue tractable hit series. What you'll do

As a Team Leader in the HTS department you will lead a team of scientists delivering High-throughput Screens to AstraZeneca drug projects and academic collaborators, maximizing individual talents and developing a high-performing team. You will have a passion for scientific delivery and innovation, developing science and technology strategy and shaping the future of the HTS capability, and building trusted relationships with senior scientific colleagues.

You will be a member of the Discovery Sciences organization, working within an outstanding scientific environment to support drug discovery across each of AstraZeneca’s Therapeutic Areas. You will develop and maintain a high level of science and technology knowledge, building specialist expertise in specific areas of drug discovery to lead your team effectively, providing mentorship, training and development. You will make an active contribution to the development of the HTS department through leadership of multi-disciplinary initiatives that deliver value and impact to drug discovery projects.

Essential Criteria

  • BSc/PhD in a relevant biology discipline
  • Proven experience in cell and/or biochemical screening approaches and ability to troubleshoot screening problems
  • Ability to drive the practical application of new assay approaches to screening and drug discovery science in Hit Discovery
  • Familiarity with technology-rich lab environments.

Location

This role will initially be based at Alderley Park, Cheshire prior to the group relocating to Cambridge so you must be committed to moving with this role.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of leading a team in the delivery of high-throughput screens
  • Experience of developing people to improve talent and ensure high performing teams
  • Experience of leading a team in the identification, establishment and implementation of new technologies, methods, practices and ways of working.
  • Experience in several cellular and biochemical screening technologies
  • Assay Development, cascade design and drug discovery project team experience
  • Phenotypic screening, imaging/flow cytometry, ion channel/GPCR experience
  • Understanding of state-of-the-art assay and automation technology platforms
  • Publication record and/or experience of presenting scientific data
  • Strong understanding of the analysis and interpretation of screening data to understand mechanism of target engagement
  • Experience of applying high volume/complexity data generation methods to drug discovery projects
  • Experience of small molecule screening and/or fragment-based screening.
