Amgen is currently offering a unique opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Head of Oncology Clinical Biomarkers within the Clinical Biomarkers and Diagnostics Group (CBD). In this vital role you will develop and implement biomarker and diagnostic strategies across the Oncology portfolio to enable and support the development and commercialization of medically differentiated therapies in oncology. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a highly collaborative environment and will represent the Clinical Oncology Biomarkers department in high stakes discussions and strategic planning both internally and externally.
Responsibilities
Develop and coordinate the Oncology Biomarker strategy across targeted therapeutic areas
Direct the successful translation of pre-clinical biomarker research to human clinical trials
Develop strategies for identifying and evaluating cutting-edge biomarker technologies. Lead the evaluation, validation, and implementation of novel technologies and capabilities both internally as well as with external collaborators
Integrate basic biology, biomarker, genomic, transcriptomic, imaging, and clinical PK, safety, and efficacy data to inform on clinical decision making, mechanisms of response and resistance to therapy, as well as fundamental disease biology
Present key results at group meetings, governance bodies, scientific conferences and to key internal and external stakeholders and collaborators
Interface with internal functions and external companies to provide technical guidance in the development of clinical biomarker assays and IVDs as needed
Provide clinical biomarker sciences direction and leadership to a group of highly skilled Global Clinical Biomarker Leads and Biomarker Operations: support recruitment and line management of employees, ensuring that they are appropriately trained, developed and coached to comply with company and regulatory standards
Contribute to the optimization of existing as well as the development of new processes to ensure best practice. Mentors and develop Biomarker Scientists
Provide biomarker expertise to Development management, the Discovery Biomarker Group and project teams to ensure access to state-of-the-art thinking on appropriate biomarker and diagnostic technologies, evaluating their scientific basis and clinical applicability, the validation status and any technical or statistical issues related to the proposed biomarkers and companion diagnostics

Basic Qualifications
Doctorate degree & 6 years of clinical biomarkers & diagnostics experience OR
Master’s degree & 10 years of clinical biomarkers & diagnostic experience OR
Bachelor’s degree & 12 years of clinical biomarkers & diagnostic experience AND
6 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources
Preferred Qualifications
• Experienced biomedical leader (PhD or MD/PhD) with a minimum of 10 years of post-doctoral and relevant industry experience with expertise in oncology biomarker and companion diagnostic development
• Experience developing and implementing overarching therapeutic area biomarker and/or CDx strategies
• Experience leading and conducting research and ability to evaluate, interpret and present complex scientific data
• Experience with the discovery, characterization, clinical validation and utilization of innovative biomarkers and companion diagnostics
• Experience in human translational research with biomarker application in clinical trials and awareness of the challenges of implementing biomarker and diagnostic technologies in the clinical setting
• Leadership skills including motivation and delegation
• Verbal and written communication and presentation skills
• Initiative and ability to work independently and business awareness
