At this exciting time, the HKPM is seeking Head, Learning and Engagement to lead the Museum’s Learning and Public Engagement team. Reporting to Deputy Director, Curatorial and Programming, the incumbent plans and implements the Museum’s robust and innovative learning and public engagement programmes.
You will be responsible for:
- being an advocate for Museum visitors to develop and implement the Museum’s innovative visitor-centered learning, interpretation, and public engagement strategy, targeting diverse audiences;
- developing interpretive strategies and techniques to support the development and implementation of exhibition projects in collaboration with the Curatorial and the Design and Technical Support teams;
- conducting visitor studies and programme evaluation to improve visitor experience;
- designing and delivering innovative events and activities, such as gallery tours, lectures, performances, and workshops;
- developing educational contents, such as teaching materials and resources in collaboration with Curatorial team, school teachers, and other partners;
- developing proactively and creatively the Museum’s public engagement and community outreach initiatives, including but not limited to developing strong partnerships with schools and community organisations;
- managing recruitment, training and professional development of the learning and public engagement staff and volunteer guides;
- managing annual and long-term budgets related to the learning and public engagement initiatives and programmes; and
- performing other duties as assigned by supervisor when deemed necessary.
You should:
- possess a recognised university degree, preferably a post-graduate qualification in education/art education, museum studies, history, arts, design, cultural management or other relevant disciplines;
- have at least 12 years of working experience in managing sizable teams with diverse responsibilities in learning, interpretation, or public engagement programmes in art, cultural or educational sectors where at least 5 years of management experience is preferred;
- have proven track record of successful collaboration with a wide range of partners including schools, community groups and cultural organisations;
- have proven leadership skills and excellent interpersonal, negotiation and influencing skills;
- demonstrate strong skills in content development, such as educational resources
- have knowledge of the best practices, new theories and methods in the field of museum learning and public engagement;
- possess good understanding of new technologies, including online and on-site digital platforms that facilitate discovery and learning of the museum’s offerings;
- have familiarity with the museum world or the education scene in Hong Kong and Asia; and
- possess strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Chinese, knowledge of spoken Cantonese and Putonghua is an advantage.
