HEAD OF INDUSTRY AGENDA, GREATER CHINA
The World Economic Forum, committed to improving the state of the world, is the international organization for public-private cooperation.
The Forum engages the foremost political, business and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and industry agendas.
As a membership organization, the Forum, through its Centre for Global Industries, aims to provide the unique and indispensable platform to industry communities to shape the Industry Agenda and advance sector-related public-private cooperation.
The Forum, whose Centre teams are currently based in New York and Geneva, is seeking to expand its industry-related activities, including industry-related System Initiatives and community curation, into the Greater China region, through its Beijing Representative Office. The Forum is looking specifically to foster further engagement from the region into the following System Initiatives:
- Shaping the Future of Consumption
- Shaping the Future of Energy
- Shaping the Future of Financial and Monetary Systems
- Shaping the Future of Media, Information and Entertainment
- Shaping the Future of Production
- Shaping the Future of Long Term Investing, Infrastructure and Development
The Head of Industry Agenda, Greater China is responsible to develop compelling and relevant value streams for Chinese business stakeholders. Reporting (dual) to the Head of the Centre for Global Industries and the Chief Representative Officer, Greater China, the Head of Industry Agenda, Greater China will work with the Head of the Business Engagement team to recruit and engage Partners into the industry community and System Initiatives globally.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Strategic team leadership: Design and implement strategy that allows the Centre for Industry Agenda to deliver value streams to Member and Partner companies consistent with the Forum’s mission.
- Ensure optimal team structure and organization: Manage team members’ performance, support their career development and oversee the on-boarding and off-boarding of team members
- Strategy formulation and action plan delivery: Lead the development and delivery of short-, medium- and long-term strategies to ensure that the Forum continues to be the unique and indispensable platform to industry communities to shape the Industry Agenda and advance sector-related public-private cooperation, globally and in China.
- Strategic insight sharing: synthesize and import industry insights and activities for Chinese Members and Partners
- Where applicable, develop China-based activities (e.g. host global workstream meeting in Beijing office) or Type II and III projects
Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum 12 years of relevant client-facing business experience requiring communication, organizational, decision-making and leadership skills in a dynamic and international environment such as consulting
- Master’s degree in business, economics, engineering or related discipline
- Proven track-record of leadership and management experience, able to skilfully execute multiple and occasionally competing priorities
- Entrepreneurial spirit keen to develop and build up an new Centre in China, identify unique opportunities, craft a vision and execute it
- Team player with the ability to build strong relationships and networks, and navigate complex organizations
- Global outlook and business experience on different continents
- Excellent understanding of the current industry landscape, the key drivers changing the sector, and their consequences for the future
- Experience in analysing complex industry issues using the most relevant business intelligence and in synthesizing appropriate recommendations
- Demonstrated work with industry leaders at senior executive and preferably C-suite level; policy experts in academia, NGOs and government agencies
- Outstanding communication skills, must be fluent/bilingual in written and spoken Mandarin Chinese and English
