Job Title: International Head of Secondary
Job Summary:
The International Head of Secondary provides overall leadership, management, and strategic direction for the secondary school division (Grades 6–12 or equivalent). This role encompasses academic programme oversight, student pastoral care, staff supervision, and the cultivation of an inclusive, multicultural learning environment. The position is dedicated to upholding rigorous academic standards, promoting innovative pedagogical approaches, and ensuring robust student support systems that align with the school’s mission and core values.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership & Strategic Direction
Drive the strategic planning and ongoing development of the secondary school.
Cultivate a school culture grounded in academic excellence, creativity, and continuous enhancement.
Collaborate with the executive leadership team to implement institution-wide initiatives.
Champion the school’s vision and ethos, ensuring compliance with international education benchmarks.
Provide strategic oversight for the IB programme, aligning it with the school’s broader vision and global best practices.
Manage IB authorisation, evaluation, and re-authorisation processes, ensuring full adherence to IB standards and requirements.
2. Curriculum & Instruction
Supervise the planning, execution, and review of the secondary curriculum, guaranteeing alignment with international frameworks (e.g., IGCSE, IB, or equivalent).
Lead curriculum innovation and differentiation strategies to address diverse learner needs.
Ensure meaningful integration of educational technology into teaching and learning practices.
Maintain academic rigour and regularly assess student performance to ensure consistent progress.
Serve as IB Coordinator, overseeing the design, implementation, and ongoing refinement of the IB Diploma Programme.
Ensure curriculum coherence, assessment integrity, and fidelity to IB philosophies and structures.
Organise internal and external IB assessments, moderation exercises, and reporting procedures.
Teach IB classes as needed, taking accountability for subject delivery, evaluation, and student achievement.
3. Staff Management & Professional Growth
Guide teaching staff in understanding and applying IB pedagogies, Approaches to Learning (ATL), and assessment criteria.
Recruit, develop, and mentor faculty members, offering meaningful professional development opportunities.
Conduct performance reviews and foster a culture of high professional expectations.
Encourage collaborative planning and cross-disciplinary initiatives among staff.
Ensure all educators remain current with evolving pedagogical research and technological tools.
Lead IB-focused training sessions on philosophy, curriculum design, assessment, and inquiry-based learning.
Mentor IB teachers in unit planning, assessment construction, and reflective practice.
Facilitate IB collaborative planning meetings and interdisciplinary learning projects.
4. Student Well-being & Discipline
Establish and maintain robust pastoral care systems to support student health and well-being.
Oversee the enforcement of student conduct and disciplinary policies.
Promote an inclusive school climate that respects cultural diversity and global perspectives.
Ensure adequate support for students with learning difficulties or special educational needs.
Monitor IB students’ academic performance, workload management, and overall welfare, fostering holistic growth in line with the IB Learner Profile.
Assist students with IB subject selection, academic counselling, and post-secondary planning.
5. Parent & Community Engagement
Partner with the Local Head of Secondary to develop strong parent-school relationships and encourage parental involvement in students’ education.
Collaborate with the Local Head of Secondary to maintain regular communication with parents regarding school events, achievements, and updates.
Engage the broader community to enhance the school’s reputation and forge partnerships with local and international organisations.
Clearly explain IB philosophy, curriculum structure, assessment methods, and student expectations to parents.
Represent the school at IB-related meetings, conferences, and external networks when required.
6. Administrative & Operational Management
Manage the secondary school budget, resource allocation, and facility development.
Ensure compliance with local education regulations and accreditation requirements.
Formulate and implement policies concerning school operations, health, and safety.
Track key performance indicators related to academic outcomes, staff growth, and student success.
Participate actively in school marketing activities to support student recruitment efforts.
Handle IB programme administration, including documentation, scheduling, compliance, and liaison with the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO).
Maintain accurate data systems for IB students, assessments, and reporting.
Promote the IB pathway by effectively communicating its benefits and outcomes to prospective students and families.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related discipline (Doctorate preferred).
Minimum of three years of experience as a secondary school principal or in a comparable senior leadership role.
Substantial teaching background, ideally within an international or multicultural environment.
Demonstrated leadership and management experience in a secondary or international school setting.
Familiarity with international curricula such as IB, IGCSE, or A-Levels.
Strong leadership, communication, and organisational capabilities.
