Job Description
* This position is only open for 2024-2025.
Overall:
The employee shall lead the department by:
1. Analyzing the relevant CAIE subject curriculums offered by the school, taking account of the needs of the school as a whole;
2. Suggesting any necessary improvement and/or change in curriculum design within the department and advising the school management accordingly;
3. Monitoring and evaluating the quality of teaching and learning within the department in association with the principal in charge of academic affairs using a framework provided by the Director of Studies once a semester;
4. Encouraging, enabling and supporting the work of other teachers within the department.

Key Responsibilities and tasks
1. Advocate school’s policy and decision, cooperate with school to promote related work; provide an example of demonstration teaching in the department; provide a role model of exemplary teaching within the department; to be obligated to take the lead as a model when school needs.
2. To oversee teaching within the department through the coordination of schemes of work using a framework provided by the school.
3. To ensure that all teachers within the department foster a positive and engaging learning environment using an existing system of teacher support and appraisal.
Supervise the teaching quality of teachers through listening and evaluating courses.
4. To ensure the effective use of Manage back of each teacher within the department to
record and monitor student progress; to ensure that students' work is regularly assessed with meaningful and productive feedback.
5. To communicate with administrative members of staff including mentors about student-related academic and disciplinary matters when necessary.
6. To support members of the department who may have problems with individual students or classes under an existing framework provided by the school.
7. To attend Senior Management Team meetings, integrate and share subject resources, and play an active and supporting role in the development of the school.
8. To chair regular departmental team meetings, academic teaching & research activities, Subject characteristic activities, and to ensure that minutes are taken with copies to the School Principal.
9. To work closely with the HR department and Principal regarding the hiring, retention and assignment of teachers for the department.
10. To allocate classes to each member of the department adhering to the suggested number of teaching hours determined by the school.
11. To be responsible for all assessments conducted internally within the subject area.
12. To be responsible for leading the team building activities, arousing the enthusiasm of team members to plan and attend the activities held in SDA/DTD.
13. To manage the ordering, storage and use of materials, equipment, books, etc. in association with school management.
14. To supervise the use and care of all teaching spaces assigned to the department including adherence to relevant health and safety regulations.
15. To be given a departmental budget for an entire academic year which could be used for purchases of certain department supplies.

Basic Qualification:
1) Education: At least Bachelor’s Degree (major in Education or relevant field is a plus)
2) Required Certificates: PGCE, QTS or other Teaching License is a plus
3) Experience: more than 2-year experience in bilingual/international schools
4) Qualifications to obtain a working visa in China
