An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Head of Business Partnering – Commercial, within our Finance department.

The purpose of this role is to head up commercial finance for our Group Commercial function, leading the finance business partner team by providing support to the sector management teams and to act directly as a finance lead for the Group Commercial Director and his/her team.

The role reports to the Group Head of Finance Business Partnering and will work closely with key stakeholders within the commercial function, in particular supporting the Group Commercial Director, the Heads of Sectors and their central teams and the Global Head of Marketing. The role is also responsible for co-ordination with the Regional Commercial Directors and their related finance business partners, and for collaboration with sector FP&A teams located in the regions.

The role is essential to help to drive commercial finance excellence across the regions and to gain alignment with streams on processes, timings and financial outputs. As a key and highly visible role in the development of the strategy for the Group’s commercial team, there is significant opportunity for the role holder to demonstrate future potential.

Location

The role will be office-based located in the UK (mainly Chiswick) with national/international travel dependent upon business requirements.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Manage proactive finance involvement and challenge in all key Group Commercial decisions
  • Be the finance lead on business enhancing projects led by the Group Commercial function.  It is anticipated that the role holder will be involved in a number of ongoing business projects at any one time (e.g. commission schemes, MSA, Sales reporting, marketing spend ROI and planning process)
  • Drive and support commercial change initiatives across the Group
  • Review, analyse and understand current and past trends in key performance indicators including all areas of sales and marketing to highlight trends and analyse causes of unexpected variance
  • Support the Executive team management in monitoring the performance in each of the business’s key products/markets.
  • Present sound business insight and analysis to the Group Commercial leadership team, proactively suggesting commercial improvement opportunities
  • Support the Group Commercial Director and the sector heads in the development and articulation of a short and medium term strategy and providing the financial input required to that process
  • Responsible for the guidance, preparation, challenge and approval of Budgets and forecasts for the sectors, prepared in conjunction with the Sector leads, ensuring that sector activity is aligned to the stream strategy across the Group
  • Leading a team of finance business partners through coaching, guiding and where necessary instructing towards best practice finance business partnering
  • Determine and allocate responsibilities within the Finance Business Partner team
  • Represent finance in Commercial executive meetings, including forecast, budget and strategic plan review meetings with the Group Executive
  • Develop a culture of continuous improvement aimed at improving commercial awareness and better / well informed decision making through business/industry/market analysis  
  • Review financial evaluations of new commercial proposals and decisions, including scenario analysis, providing insight to the commercial leaders
  • Control and manage development of financial models and analyses to support strategic initiatives, review marketing and sales efficiency
  • Challenge month end results including review of sector performance, understanding marketing and sales activity and costs, and controlling Group Commercial costs
  • Creation of reporting and control outputs to support a fluid and emerging organisation structure.
  • Identify Risks/Opportunities and provide plans/ideas to mitigate them
  • Responsible for in-depth analysis to be provided to Senior Management Team and Departments heads
  • Prepare presentations for Senior Management Team meetings
  • Work collaboratively with Regional finance sector and commercial FP&A teams
  • Collaboratively work with Group and Regional Finance teams to build reporting process and structures to support the needs of

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Qualified to degree level or similar, with an accountancy qualification (CIMA, ACCA or ACA) and significant post-qualification commercial finance experience.
  • Confident, capable and credible with effective communication, influencing and persuasiveness skills dealing with both peers and senior colleagues
  • Worked in a matrixed corporate environment of similar scale to BSI, global experience is desirable
  • Ability to effectively deliver and drive change utilising indirect resources within a matrixed structure
  • A strong leader with the personal ability to lead a finance business partnering team
  • Commercially astute, focused on adding value with previous experience of delivering on a growth strategy
  • Team player with positive ‘can do’ and proactive attitude, solution orientated and goal driven
  • Consultative and collaborative in approach
  • Confident building processes and procedures from the ground up and challenging existing processes
  • Ability to build lasting relationships with business leaders and managers
  • Ability to delegate tasks to team members where appropriate but comfortable with engaging in the detail as part of a small team

The Head of Business Partnering – Commercial will also have dotted reporting line into key business stakeholders, principally the Group Commercial Director.
