YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Head of Data Science and Analytics, are to: 

• Lead multiple teams of data scientists and data engineers providing mid- to long-term strategic, tactical direction and operational oversight to define, implement and promote cutting-edge analytical and data engineering solutions for complex Breeding problems and operations;
• Serve as a thought leader for truly innovative ideas for long term impact on product development and placement;
• Partner with other functions working on data science, software engineering, genome design, precision breeding, phenomics to ensure collaborative development of tools and techniques;
• Contribute as a member of initiative teams working on multiple Global Breeding strategy areas;
• Develop strong partnerships with other teams in Global Breeding and Biotechnology to ensure broad utility and impact of results;
• Develop a broad knowledge of global internal and external advances and plans pertaining to new breeding methodologies and tools;
• Identify and lead efforts around Breeding precision placement strategies and testing footprint;
• Conduct research and be a key partner to advance the collective knowledge and skills of our Data Science practice across the enterprise.

Required Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Bioinformatics, Molecular Genetics, Genomics, Statistics or related field;
• At least four years of experience leading data scientists at various levels of experience;
• Strong knowledge of genetics, statistics, ML algorithms and frameworks, or frameworks such as CPLEX, IaaS and PaaS such as AWS, Google Cloud;
• At least three years of experience of applying ML technologies to drive business outcomes;
• Fluency in programming and scripting languages;
• Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills;
• Experience presenting results to varied audiences and influencing project direction/strategy;
• Demonstrated ability to foster and maintain relationships at all levels of the organization and collaborating across various levels;
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-based and cross-functional team environment.
