Job Description
The role of Head of Engineering Functional Excellence is responsible for enhancing Eaton's overall product development lifecycle, embedding a continuous improvement and lean culture and providing our engineering teams with process, tools and systems that optimize their productivity and fuels organic growth. The incumbent will be responsible for: Providing insights and oversight through performance indicators across our end-to-end product development lifecycle Developing and deploying strategies to advance our engineering maturity and efficiency Simplifying, streamlining and standardizing engineering processes and tools The incumbent will be responsible for collaborating with a cross-functional set of stakeholders across the divisions, to drive improvements in key business metrics. The incumbent will build organization capability in engineering excellence and aligning Eaton's EBS framework. In this role, you will: Demonstrate near-expert level competence in understanding the full end-to-end aspects of Engineering operations and the product development lifecycle Act as a lean champion and innovative thought leader, focusing on driving standardization, simplification and digitalization for & across the product development lifecycle Using Lean principles to ensure continuous improvement, deployment and execution of the Eaton Business System Pre-Launch, Pro-Launch and AgileStarts processes across Eaton worldwide. Implement a robust reporting infrastructure across the end-to-end product development lifecycle, extracting data from appropriate systems to provide real-time actionable insights on our product development efficiency and effectiveness Ensure a customer first mindset is embedded across our processes, systems and tools, making work easier and creating capacity for our engineers across all aspects of the product development lifecycle. Educate and direct the education of cross-functional teams that play a role in the product development lifecycle, on appropriate processes, systems and tools and drive a culture of continuous improvement and lean methodologies Provide valuable insights and direction on opportunities for investments, synergies and enhancements across the engineering operations, to contribute to the development of the annual profit plan budget Qualifications Basic Qualifications: Master's degree in a relevant Science, Engineering, Technology or Mathematics field (Mechanical, Electrical, Materials Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, etc.) Minimum 15 years of experience working across engineering, operations and manufacturing, supply chain and sales, with a proven track record influencing across the end-to-end product development process Must be an expert in Lean Six Sigma and Continuous Improvement methodologies with experience in successfully deploying new enterprise wide initiatives Equally important are deep technical knowledge, understanding the complexities of engineering across multiple technologies and R&D management This is not limited to the United States so person must be similarly comfortable working across cultures and time zones Ideal candidate will be recognized externally as an influencer and leader in lean, continuous improvement and engineering excellence, demonstrate an ability to influence organizational and culture change. Technical knowledge: Requires broad foundational technical expertise across areas such as grid modernization, vehicle and aerospace electrification, additive manufacturing and intelligent systems. Solid understanding of and ability to assess and deploy enterprise IT systems, applications and solutions. Proven ability to leverage cutting edge technologies such as robotics, machine learning and artificial intelligence applications, to drive operational efficiency and effectiveness. Position Criteria: Must be influential, visible internal and external leader, with incredibly strong drive for success to drive efficiency and effectiveness, able to challenge the status quo, motivate and inspire teams to work together to solve complex challenges Must be able to build strong relationships at all levels serving as trusted confidential advisor and partner It is essential to be a compelling storyteller, able to weave together opportunities to enhance Eaton technology and business interests through engineering efficiencies. This must result in persuasive, convincing narratives for audiences ranging from highly technical experts to non-technical stakeholders with ability to influence Senior Leadership to invest in engineering operations Must have the ability to develop relationships globally and informally across Eaton businesses and functions to create Power of One opportunities Able to manage large complex teams with strong professional presence, strategic thinker with ability to decisively advocate for innovative program concepts, teaming arrangements and funding allocations.
