Head of Engineering (m/f/x) - SaaS Venture

BCG Digital Ventures is getting ready to launch a new product and venture which is set to disrupt the EUR 2+bn construction industry. Built together with and backed by a leading mining company, the venture - project name JustBuild - is using the latest technologies to create an international set-up system to manage pre-construction processes. 

Together with our Corporate Partner, we are kicking the construction industry into the next gear by addressing its currently outdated processes which lack transparency. How can we make pre-construction processes more transparent and efficient for both General Contractors and Sub-Contractors? How do we make sure that time and resources are not wasted while more projects are won in the process? 

Our ultimate goal is to create a 360° solution for the construction industry. To do so, we are currently building a Software As A Service product that focuses on bid management for General Contractors. In the mid-term, we will continue to build the SaaS and add machine learning to have intelligent and matching algorithms while enabling contractors to generate more projects. The project and venture is and will continue to benefit from our Corporate Partner’s strategic and financial assets which give us a significant advantage and launching point for the product and venture. 

Responsibilities:

• Design, build, scale and maintain JustBuild’s software solutions (Backend: Kotlin, Spring Boot, Postgres, AWS, Fargate, Terraform, Python, Pandas and GraphQL / Frontend: TypeScript, React, Apollo Client)
• Organizational and technical management of the software engineering and data science team
• Provide technical leadership, guidance, growth and constantly develop team members
• Work closely and partner with CPO and CEO to constantly develop the product further
• Drive the improvement of data intelligence features
• Partner with and bring together frontend, UX and product teams
• Getting your hands dirty by executing alongside the team if needed
• Foster a culture of continuous delivery and test-driven development
• Champion good agile practices that provide a foundation for iterative product development
• Staying up-to-date with current technologies

Requirements:

• Several years of experience in software engineering – ideally both with frontend and backend related topics and technologies, as well as machine learning or general data science topics
• Experience in technologies such as Backend: Kotlin, Spring Boot, Postgres, AWS, Fargate, Terraform, Python, Pandas and GraphQL / Frontend: TypeScript, React, Apollo Client
• Leadership experience of small - mid-sized teams (starting from 2-3 employees) and ability to energize team towards the tech vision
• Product mindset and ability to speak with product leadership frequently and comprehensively
• Strong stakeholder management and alignment skills
• Experience working with agile, lean, test-driven and continuous delivery approaches
• Willingness to relocate to Berlin
• Excellent communication (English is a must) and people skills
