The Head of Global Digital Corporate Communications will lead a paramount shift in AstraZeneca’s Global Digital Corporate Communications strategy and a growing, best-in-class corporate digital team. You will help create and implement an overarching vision for the Company’s approach to digital corporate communications, developing a three-year integrated omni-channel strategy that achieves AstraZeneca’s online corporate reputational objectives in line with our Growth Through Innovation strategy.
With the company an early adopter of digital-first communications, this leader will be expected to evolve and enhance approaches, defining and driving a five-year integrated global digital communications strategy centered around Content, Channels and Data & Analytics.
The Content strategy will push the boundaries of science with creative storytelling, partnering with internal stakeholders to unearth the best stories of What Science Can Do, supporting TA growth and other priority corporate leadership opportunities, including our industry-leading Sustainability work, including omni-channel amplification and influencer engagement.
The Channel strategy executes a unified and connected social strategy across AstraZeneca’s internal and external corporate social media channels – creating integrated experiences that foster positive reputation and increase engagement. The team collaborates across the business to explore new channels and opportunities to bring to life the passion, innovation and progress at AstraZeneca, while also increasing visibility of our online content through search engine optimization, and optimizing processes/driving efficiency and effectiveness.
The Data & Analytics strategy employs an always-on listening approach, using real-time data to predict trends and issues, and understand audience behaviours, applying unique approaches to insight generation, performance evaluation, campaign measurement, corporate reputation measurement and industry benchmarking.
The Global Digital Corporate Communications Team is part of the broader Global External Corporate Communications Team within Global Corporate Affairs (GCA), which partners across the business to strengthen and maintain the company’s corporate reputation, as we push the boundaries of science to deliver life-changing medicines for patients.
Key Responsibilities:
· Define and drive AstraZeneca’s global corporate digital communications strategy to elevate AstraZeneca’s corporate reputation and drive engagement. Oversee implementation of three-pillar digital strategy (content, analytics, channel), driven by data insights and informed by industry best practices and benchmarks
· Define metrics and measure of success to track progress of digital strategy implementation, refining as more insights are gathered
· Report insights from social listening and analytics, translating digital and social data into actionable items for senior leaders within GCA and beyond
· Support corporate brand and reputation measurement across digital channels to help build and protect the AstraZeneca brand
· Oversee management of global internal and external corporate digital channels, including global corporate website, country websites and above-brand AstraZeneca websites, intranet and social presence.
· Oversee and drive team’s performance of amplification strategies and implementation, including paid and influencer strategies across global social channels
· Oversee the development and approval of new digital capabilities
· Develop and maintain relationships with major digital and social platforms
· Accountable for digital communications budget and monitor spend, including overseeing the evaluation of, and investment in, technology
· Ensure ABPI compliance of digital and social content; adhere to and reinforce compliance regulations for both corporate and employee social media/corporate digital activity
· Serve as a steward of our corporate brand, ensuring consistency and accuracy for external digital assets
· Maintain a view of the competitive landscape, best practices, and emerging trends
· Lead a growing digital communications team, enabling their professional growth while continuing to ensure the team is staying ahead of the curve in learning about and/or applying growing trends and new digital technologies and capabilities
· Manage agency teams supporting work
Knowledge and Experience:
· Extensive professional experience with many years spent working in a corporate communications, digital or social strategy related function
· Experience in healthcare or pharmaceutical industry strongly desired
· Degree with a concentration in communication, journalism, digital media or business is preferred
· Management experience
· Possesses a skilled digital strategy mindset continuously focused on measurable business outcomes
· Demonstrated ability to present unique or complex ideas, strategies to non-digital experts, including executive stakeholders within the business
· Experience developing and managing content across multiple digital channels (web, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook)
· Experience in omnichannel amplification and digital influencer outreach, digital and social media paid campaign management
· Experience using enabling technologies and platforms (ex. Sprinklr, Brandwatch, Sociabble, etc.) to execute digital strategies
· Experience working within a CMS, AEM preferred
· Demonstrable experience in leading change programmes to implement new functionality and platforms
· Strong communication and presentation skills that consistently exhibit confidence and competence
· Strong English copy writing and editing abilities
· Experience collaborating with or managing internal stakeholders to build strong relationships
· Ability to translate digital analytics into actionable business insights
· Ability to travel occasionally, both domestically and abroad
· Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies, practices and platforms
· Understanding of working in a highly regulated industry, preferably including knowledge of government agencies, such as APBI
· Experience working in change management and crisis management
· High level of integrity, able to handle highly confidential information
· Ability to manage conflicting priorities, stakeholder & colleague expectations and deliver consistently high-quality outputs
· Proactive with high levels of self-motivation and personal accountability, bringing enthusiasm and energy to team, peer group and tasks
· Comfortable working in an international corporate environment, and at times supporting multiple global time zones, contributing to and prioritizing multiple high-level projects
