Sr. Director, Sales Training and Enablement

Position Overview

The Senior Director of Sales Training and Enablement will report to the Senior Vice President of Marketing, Sales Operations, and Communications and will interact with Sales and Business Line Leadership.  The ideal candidate will have sales training experience, strong leader qualities, and a background in sales.

This person will direct and oversee the organization's sales training programs to maximize sales effectiveness. The Sales Training and Enablement team is responsible for developing and delivering strategic learning programs for all commercial staff to include; new employee orientation, product training, and skill/enablement enhancement programs.  Additionally, Sr. Director will be responsible for creating a synergistic and aligned approach across multiple commercial teams and business lines to ensure proper education of all new and existing sales personnel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Achieve Revenue and Drive Growth through Strategic Planning, and Development of Sales Training and Enablement Programs
  • Leads initiatives for the training and enablement of the sales teams that will develop the competencies and skills required to achieve strategic objectives and desired business outcomes.
  • Partners with Sr. Leadership, Sales Leadership, Marketing and Sales Operations teams to strategically and tactically evaluate and prioritize training needs, planning, resource allocations and the design of training programs that facilitate the continuous learning and professional development of the sales organization.
  • Works closely with Senior Management to establish competency levels for sales organization and to develop a comprehensive learning strategy inclusive of sales training programs and tools that will support equip the sales teams to drive desired business outcomes.
  • Conceptualizes and leads initiatives for sales and technical training programs. 
  • Works cross-functionally and in close alignment with Sr. Leadership and Sales Leadership to lead the planning, communication, cohesive delivery and deployment of training programs for the sales teams.
  • Develops and implements effective training programs covering the breadth of all key competencies utilizing a blended learning approach (classroom, field, peer to peer etc.) incorporating application, practice, sales leadership coaching and reinforcement
  • Conceptualizes and leads initiatives for the coaching and leadership development of the sales management team.
  • Develops and implements new training and enablement programs by identifying and partnering with external resources (3rd party training companies, instructors, design specialists etc.) to assess training needs and to design/deliver training solutions that align with the organization’s developing needs.
  • Explores trends, innovations, technology and applications within the training industry to recommend and implement programs/technology that will enable the sales teams.
  • Conducts ongoing evaluation of sales training programs/materials related to the performance, budget processes, overall effectiveness and impact on the team.   Incorporate conclusions from analyses into design and implementation of programs, as needed.
  • Directs the evaluation process to determine the effectiveness of all programs for ongoing best practice enhancement.
  • Often required to create/conceptualize new systems, programs, or products with significant business impact.
  • Develops and manages departmental budgets and business plans for the sales education department
  • Strong Leadership capabilities and a proven track record of working with all levels of sales reps and executives
  • Intuitive, conceptual, systems focused thinker with strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Effective pacing, prioritization and sequencing of work
  • Passion for developing others and with demonstrated experience

Ideal Experiences and Qualifications:

  • 5 years successful sales and sales management experience
  • 5 years successful team management experience
  • 2-3 years of sales training experience
  • Bachelor’s degree, MBA preferred
  • Project management experience (Lean, Agile, etc.)
  • Successful CRM Platform and Sales Tools rollout experience
