Job Description
• This job description provides a broad outline of the duties envisaged, but may be varied by mutual consent between the Head of Studies and the Head of Nursery as the Lucton Nurseries develop.
• The job is full time with working hours as specified in the contract signed by both parties.
• The age of children attending is anticipated to be between 2 and 6 years with the Head of Studies line managed by an experienced Head of Nursery already appointed, who will report to the Chinese Operating Company.
• The Nursery will follow a course designed by Lucton School UK based on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) as set and regularly reviewed by the UK Government and including elements based on UK Key Stage 1 for the older children.
• The Head of Studies will build the curriculum and be responsible for updating staff on changes. The 25% (approximate) curriculum element of Chinese culture and language will be taught alongside the 75% (approximate) UK element and detail will be provided by the Head of Nursery.
• The Nursery will be multinational and will mirror Lucton School Nursery in professional practice, style and uniform. The Head of Studies will provide the bridge between the two schools.
• Recruitment of non Chinese teaching staff, including interviewing, will be a key responsibility in conjunction with the Head of Nursery.
• The Head of Studies will have overall responsibility for curriculum delivery which will involve building and counselling the Chinese and non Chinese teaching teams with regular staff meetings to ensure consistency.
• Teaching staff will be recruited from different backgrounds requiring the Head of Studies to provide personally or organise in service training where needed.
• Teacher assessment will be ongoing and the Head of Studies will observe teaching, evaluate performance with staff and debrief the Head of Nursery at specified intervals.
• The Head of Studies will play a leading role in external communication, interacting with parents, prospective parents and other schools.
• Teaching time will be flexible to accommodate other duties, but the Head of Studies will be expected to be involved in the day to day delivery of the curriculum.
• Reviewing and reporting progress, setting up Key Person arrangements and ensuring completeness of the child’s progress profile.
• Smooth passage to the child’s next school will require the Head of Studies to evaluate performance to date and advise on appropriate further education.
• The Head of Studies will be responsible for the running of the Nursery in the absence of the Head.
