The scope of the role will cover the South Asia Pacific and Japan primarily, which includes: corporate offices, retail stores, distribution centres and regional vendor locations, as directed. The successful applicant will be a member of the global health and safety team.
The job holder is responsible for assisting with the on-going development and implementation of Burberry’s health and safety strategy. The job holder will provide business aligned health and safety (H&S) support to this region to the extent outlined within the responsibilities of this job description, in the pursuance of protecting our people, brand and customer experience.
- Be the subject matter advisor for all regional H&S management enquiries, advice and support.
- Partner with internal and external auditors/inspectors to ensure that support is provided to facilitate the close out of health and safety actions. This will include undertaking audits as well as reviewing draft audit reports for accuracy and relevance.
- Undertake risk based health and safety inspections within the region, which includes construction activities.
- Co-ordinate and support regional H&S committee meetings with agenda and presentation preparations and ensure minutes have been issued and distributed.
- Partner with the Global health and safety team on all H&S related (proactive & reactive) matters which may include corporate responsibility and VM projects.
- Support the region as required in relation to construction projects and provide advice and assistance to the Architecture and internal construction teams throughout the construction life cycle.
- Partner with the Health and Safety Director & the Fire, Health & Safety Manager to provide safety advice and support to the event and production teams responsible for regional events.
- Partner with the regional HR team on the global Wellbeing programme and other occupational health issues. Complete/advise on person specific assessments (return to work, pregnancy, disability etc.) where necessary.
- In partnership with the operational management teams, reduce health and safety risk throughout the region. This includes, but is not limited to: H&S coaching/training, support to store openings and partnering with regional direct vendors and on-going assistance to retail management teams.
- Monitor all regional health and safety incidents to both ensure that the correct categorisation is made. Provide assistance and support to regional managers and where necessary personally investigate serious health and safety incidents to identify underlying causes; recording findings and recommendations within the Rivo Safeguard system. Support also with raising awareness through workshops and Rivo dashboards
- Build and manage relationships with external regulators.
- Project manages, implement or provide implementation support to any H&S initiatives, objectives or training/awareness programmes.
- Support the region and the global health and safety team with the development and implementation of the following parts of the global safety management system:
- Regional (where appropriate) and global H&S objectives, targets, policies, processes, procedures or standards.
- Leading and lagging measurements on H&S performance, providing regional insight from data and measuring performance against regional industry indices and best practice. Provide internal and external reporting as required.
- H&S business cases, papers and technical analysis in support of H&S governance requirements.
- Internal and external gap analysis and targeted proactive monitoring in the pursuance of attaining and maintaining H&S legal compliance / best practice.
- 3 years (min) operational experience in occupational health and safety, preferably within a retail or similar environment
- Educated to degree level (preferable)
- English - business fluent essential
- Cantonese and Mandarin – Highly desirable
- A recognised health and safety qualification (At least level 4, preferably level 5/6)
- Award in Education and Training (L3) or equivalent
- At least GradIOSH membership of the Institution of Occupational Health and Safety (or above, with up to date evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
- Demonstrable training delivery experience
- Understanding of health and safety legal frameworks in the major countries we operate within the region and have the ability and resourcefulness to determine the practical application of these requirements in a retail environment
