Position: High School Drama Teacher
Location: Qingpu District, Shanghai, China
Start Date: August 2026
【About the School】
Located on a beautiful ten-acre lakeside campus near the historic water town of Zhujiajiao in Shanghai’s Qingpu District, this international school was founded in 2018 by a group of lifelong international educators. The school is independently accredited by Cognia and offers a comprehensive American high school curriculum in partnership with Griggs International Academy. The current student population is around 250 (Grades 8–12), with steady growth expected in the coming academic year.
【Position Overview】
We are looking for an experienced and passionate High School Drama Teacher to join a dynamic, student-centered learning environment. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about theater education, skilled in directing and performance coaching, and committed to fostering students’ creativity, confidence, and collaboration.
【Qualities, Qualifications, and Requirements:】
- Teach high school Drama/Theater classes (Grades 8–12); Plan and deliver engaging, performance-based lessons; Direct and produce school plays, performances, and showcases; Support students in developing acting, stagecraft, and performance skills
- Intercultural awareness and the flexibility to work in a dynamic, cross-cultural community; patience and persistence; a collaborative, team-oriented work ethic; and, a good-humored self-awareness.
- Minimum 2 years of Drama/Theater teaching experience
- Native English speaker from the UK, USA, or Canada
- Bachelor’s degree or above (Drama, Theatre, Education, or related field preferred)
- Criminal background check and professional references as required for work in China, as well as the contact information for a current and most recent supervisor.
- Twenty classroom hours a week (aprx. four periods a day with a workday from 8am – 4pm) in History and Social Studies instruction, along with associated planning, student assistance, and evaluation; and the support of and contribution to the school’s intellectual community.
- Help organize and advise an extracurricular club or activity with an enthusiastic desire for engagement with student life in a residential environment.
- Occasional (no more than 3 times per term) assistance on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon with recruitment and admission activities.
- Availability for new faculty orientation and planning by August 2026; the school year will conclude late June 2027.
【Compensation & Benefits:】
- Annual salary (before tax): RMB 370,000 – 425,000
→ Equivalent to RMB 30,833 – 35,417/month (pre-tax)
- High-end medical insurance.
- Support attaining necessary work authorization and residency permit or transfer of work credentials.
- Private on-campus housing with en-suite bath or a negotiated housing allowance.
- Relocation/transportation allowance.
- Support for professional development, including conference and workshop attendance.
- Official Chinese holidays; Full paid summer and winter holiday. the school also has Thanksgiving and Christmas vacations (the latter for at least one week).
