Job Description

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Housekeeping, the Operations Manager is responsible for leading, coaching, and inspiring a Housekeeping Team of approximately 185 people in our 745-room hotel.  We are looking for someone with a passion for people and a relentless commitment to ensure the highest levels of satisfaction for both our guests and colleagues.

What you will be doing:  

  • Manage the Room attendants for guestroom quality and completion of their assigned duties; which includes re-training, coaching, and performance managing if expectations are not being met
  • Must have an extremely keen eye for detail and must be relentless in their pursuit of excellent service and cleanliness standards within the guestrooms, the corridors and the surrounding environment
  • Ensure proper closing of each floor and section; ensuring all room are completed and all back spaces are clean and stocked 
  • Assume the duties of any other Housekeeping Managers when necessary, e.g. attend pre-con meetings, morning operations meeting, forecast meeting, etc. 
  • Establish goals, measurements and results for the department along with the Assistant Director of  Housekeeping
  • Promote high morale through recognition and removal of identified barriers
  • Organize and participate in colleague recognition events
  • Responsible for coaching, developing and managing the performance of the Housekeeping team
  • Plan and organize all deep cleaning cycles and projects relating to guest rooms and public areas
  • Track and address all guest comments and concerns
  • Provide necessary resources, functional tools and equipment to get the job done
  • Effective everyday communications, including performance management
  • Ensure a safe work environment is maintained at all times and that all colleagues are committed to working safely
  • Monitor/revise as needed, departmental health & safety tools including ALLSAFE, WCB & WHMIS training programs, policies and practices
  • Enhance and monitor department environmental initiatives and recycling programs
  • Effective and timely interaction with all hotel departments
  • Communicate effectively with the Maintenance department regarding guest rooms and public areas
  • Adhere to all hotel environmental policies, programs and initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned

Your experience and skills include:

  • Proven ability to successfully lead and motivate a large team
  • Highly organized with a proactive approach to getting the job done
  • Proven ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced, team-based environment
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience at a Supervisory or Manager level within the Housekeeping or Front Office in a luxury hotel 
  • Computer literate in Property Manager and Microsoft Window applications is required
  • Experience with Hotsos program would be an asset
  • University degree or college diploma in hospitality management is an asset
  • Strong interpersonal and problem solving abilities
  • Highly responsible and reliable
