Humanities teacher at MSB
Wisdom International Education GroupBeijingUpdate time: July 1,2020
Job Description
Our mission is to bring out the best in each and every student. As a community of dedicated and highly experienced educators, we are committed to providing a very strong academic foundation, as well as instilling social and moral responsibility, integrity, confidence and an enthusiasm for life-long learning.
Addressing the Needs of the Adolescent Learner; the scope and sequence of the curriculum and the observable skills and outcome objectives
Our MSB humanities curriculum is a platform for the developing young adult. The development of the student’s own “voice” and effective communication coaching is a key focus in this area. Lessons including group discussion, student-led seminars with questions and real-life explorations of significant places will be used to examine comprehensive subject matter. Reflective writing and interpretive skills are embedded in this process.
The humanities subjects include history, geography and literature. Literature is selected based on its connection to the humanities subjects – to integrate the literary arts. We have an extensive book list and are always looking for more resources. Adolescents find language very enticing and enjoy exploring theatre, poetry, op-ed pieces, scripts and lyrics. This is a natural age for enhancing vocabulary as they try to express themselves creatively!
The MSB Middle School program is a two-year program, approached from the Montessori perspective of multi-age groupings, we do not separate the MS students into grades, but rather first year and second year. Students receive both years of the curriculum within their two years in the program.
The curriculum is organized in a yearly framework of approximately 5 six-week sessions; a total of 10 sessions for the two-year program. These sessions will be outlined from history, geography and current topics relevant to the students.
Montessori MS Classroom Environments
“History of China, the dynasties and their discoveries” (Part I and II)
“Media & Communications … the influence and role of the media in society”
“African Studies…exploring humanity’s birthplace”
“Ancient South American Civilizations”
“Human Development”
“The City Study – the impact of the city; from earliest city-states to modern cities”
Profile of the Teacher:
• Bachelors or Masters in relevant subject matter: history, geography, language/literature
• Strong sense of the needs of the adolescent learner
• Collaborative – weaving content into a Montessori approach; selecting relevant subject matter
• Willing and eager to travel with adolescents; camping, hiking, MMUN, city tours etc.
• Passion for history and language
• Engaged in current events
• Interest in the relationship between people and the planet
• Creative approach to teaching writing skills
• Open-minded to student self-assessment
• Excellent researcher/model for students
• Attitude of considering things from many perspectives
• Open to the opportunity to take the Montessori Adolescent Training
