Job Description
Make your mark in our exciting world at Siemens. We are a collection of over 372, 000 minds building the future, one day at a time. Together, we create technologies that take society further. We’re looking for people with the skills and vision to build a better tomorrow. Join our UK regional Intellectual Property team as IP Counsel – Digital Businesses to help us re-imagine the world by finding solutions and making the world a smarter place for tomorrow. The position is flexible on location and travel depending on how you would like to work with your businesses and grow your role. The IP team in the UK is small, but growing, and this position is a key part of enabling that growth in our digital businesses. This could be anything from system-on-chip applications to modelling to EV charging to railway signalling. It’s incredibly important that our people enjoy working here and therefore we take great pride in having a friendly, helpful and engaging culture. We also appreciate that development and training is important to many and that’s why we have a supportive environment which invests in our employees’ development, whether that’s Chartership, training or mentoring. In particular, we support qualification as and further development for Chartered Patent Attorneys and European Patent Attorneys and encourage broader legal training both in-house and externally. Siemens recognise that building a diverse workforce is critical to the success of our business. We strongly encourage applications from a diverse talent pool and welcome the opportunity to discuss flexibility requirements and workplace adjustments with all our applicants. See our flexibility culture here. This is your role. What part will you play? • Be the key contact for IP matters in your businesses providing counsel on any and all IP issues, whether this is encouraging inventors or board-level briefings. • Support R&D in product development processes (including stage-gate and Agile development, such as mitigation of third-party IP risks and defining IP strategy in line with the product’s market strategy to create and maintain the product IP portfolio). • Identify new opportunities for protecting innovation in the UK&I, including with external partners, and liaise with our university relations, local legal and business development teams to secure valuable and strategic IP rights for Siemens, advising on contract, tender, licensing or M&A issues. • Develop your IP practice within the UK&I, encouraging the use of IP as a tool for our businesses in their strategy and growth, from protecting their ideas, to enforcing their rights. • Be part of a diverse global community of IP professionals. We don’t need superheroes, just super minds. You are: • Qualified as a patent attorney in at least one jurisdiction (CPA or EPA preferred but not essential, willingness to consider qualification would be advantageous), with at least 3 years PQE. • Successful in harvesting software and digital inventions, able to draft, prosecute, maintain and counsel on digital innovations. • Experienced in working in and influencing cross-functional teams, advising a variety of stakeholders across businesses and technologies, both in-person and remotely. • Highly motivated, proactive and keen to develop a role within a dedicated, supportive and friendly team and the wider business. We’ve got quite a lot to offer. How about you? Our compensation package includes a competitive salary, holiday allowance, pension and other additional benefits. We celebrate the fact that our employees are individuals and have different wants and needs. With this in mind, we have a flexible benefits scheme where you can tailor your benefits package to suit you. Siemens recognise that building a diverse workforce is critical to the success of our business. We strongly encourage applications from a diverse talent pool and welcome the opportunity to discuss flexibility requirements and workplace adjustments with all our applicants. See our flexibility culture here. We have partnered with VERCIDA, the UK's largest diversity and inclusion focused careers site where all our vacancies are in an accessible format.
