What is this role?

To drive the development and implementation of EUC initiatives and align business requirements with best practice.
The key themes of the EUC function are to organise and innovate the delivery EUC resources within SDL. The EUC role be responsible for standardising using best practice techniques to ensure repeatability and consistency. The ability to streamline provisioning and delivery processes are also key aspects to the success of this role.


The EUC Technical Specialist will have a passion for technology and will be seen as someone who innovates and leads with authority to maintain a highly functional, stable and reliable working environment for our user base.
There will be a strong release element associated to the role with primary involvement in authorising and implementing customisations and applications to the desktop environment. The management of such releases is a key element within the role so to ensure integrity and standards over our desktop environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and promote shared applications and infrastructure across the organisation to reduce costs.
  • Work with all areas of the business to ensure that the user desktop environment fits with company requirements.
  • Provide project management support relating to desktop technology development.
  • Document, publish and maintain key information relating to system processes and architecture; utilising documentation tools, standard templates and the document approval processes.
  • Conduct presentations, produce high level system architecture and design documents to demonstrate relevant proposals and solutions. 
  • Ongoing review of desktop design whilst working to ensure a standard user experience to corporate services regardless of desktop platform.
  • Continually review and improve upon the desktop environment by engaging with key stakeholders to discuss issues/concerns relating to service\system function. Take ownership of any related issues and work to manage the improvement process.    
  • Develop and adhere to appropriate standards and security policies to ensure risks associated with information and IT assets are minimalized. 
  • Be a leader in the development of policies, standards and guidelines that define the use of the desktop environment within the company.
  • Provide support, direction, guidance and training to the global IT Support function as required.
  • Carry out risk assessments against new and existing technology being sure to report and act upon any weaknesses that are discovered 
  • Work with the IT licensing team to implement measures for reducing nonconformity on the desktop.
  • Develop and optimise the global patch management process
  • Assess new hardware, technologies and vendors, providing guidance to steer purchasing strategy.

Requirements:
Technology and Principles

  • Strong Microsoft End Point Manager (SCCM, Intune) experience and knowledge
  • OSD – Customised OSD based upon build/device collection variables
  • Application packaging and deployment
  • Windows 10 updates and servicing
  • EUC device bios and driver updates
  • Server OSD deployment
  • Server ADR maintenance windows for updates
  • Reporting services, Customs and queries
  • Cloud Management Gateway
  • Cloud Deployment
  • Strong Windows server background with solid experience in providing EUC services including Workstation imaging, Application packaging and distribution, workstation management, Identity and security, Office365.
  • Strong knowledge of Virtual and Remote Desk infrastructure and technologies.
  • Strong knowledge and experience of AD, email, web, application and database services.
  • Strong knowledge of role based access and EUC security enforcement.
  • Exposure to cloud service.
  • Knowledge of virtualisation technologies (VMware, Hyper-V)
  • Demonstrates strong EUC Architectural knowledge.
  • Provide guidance to senior management on EUC technologies, best practices and migration methodologies and techniques.
  • Focused on minimising admin and repeat processes through automation.
  • Strong scripting knowledge with an aptitude for basic programming logic (PowerShell, Python).
  • Adhere to development and release principles, setting standards for build quality, versioning, documentation, testing and release strategy.
