Job Overview:
Mercedes-Benz Vans (MBV) is enhancing their cybersecurity program for the shopfloor (manufacturing environment) facility investments. The goal of the program is to enable MBV shopfloor business departments to become more resilient and agile to cyber-threats by embedding cybersecurity controls (administrative, physical and technical) into their business strategy and operational processes.
The Shopfloor Information Technology Security (SITS) technician will play a key role in the development and implementation of the global shopfloor cybersecurity program strategy. The individual should possess an understanding of cybersecurity and information technology where an understanding of manufacturing operations is a plus.
Responsibilities:
- In conjunction with the company’s Shopfloor, IT, and IS departments, this individual will be responsible for implementation of improvements to the current baseline as well as assisting with the implementation of new architecture, technologies, policies, procedures, and best practices for maintaining the security of the information and manufacturing assets used in operational activities. This will be done in a manner that adheres to both internal and industry security standards.
- In addition, the SITS technician will be responsible for the continuous improvement of the shopfloor cybersecurity program to protect the availability, integrity, and confidentiality of resources essential to MBV’s manufacturing processes.
- Work with the security team on the implementation and remediation related to vulnerability, patch, and asset management of all shopfloor related hardware.
- Integral to the adoption of the SITS program within MBV’s shopfloor organization as well as collaborating with the other SITS organizations worldwide.
- Responsible for working with the security team to conduct shopfloor risk assessments and mitigate business focused cybersecurity risks. Communicate identified cybersecurity risks to the security team.
- The nature of this role requires the candidate to communicate information on a level that both technical and non-technical team members can understand and react to appropriately.
- A strong understanding of cybersecurity principles with knowledge of the automotive manufacturing environment to include process controls and technology, lab equipment, quality documentation systems, IT and network architecture, security processes and tools.
- Experience in IT/Information Security across multiple domains.
- Knowledge of Cyber Security standards such as NIST and ISO 27001.
- Basic knowledge of data security standards, hardware, software, and practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, IS, or equivalent technical field and or relevant industrial experience is a plus.
- Ability to demonstrate strong written\verbal communication and presentation skills
- Self-motivated individual with ability to operate independently.
- Strong critical thinking and analytical skills.
- Preferred certifications in security (e.g., Security+).

Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC (“MBV”) is a plant in Ladson, South Carolina that produces Sprinter vans for the U.S. and Canadian market under the brands Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner. The midsize Mercedes-Benz Metris vans are also reassembled at this location.
Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC invested 500 million U.S. dollars in the construction of a new Sprinter production plant in addition to an expansion of the previous assembly operations. In September 2018, MBV officially opened its new plant, located next to existing operations in the North Charleston area. The MBV facility will provide up to 1,300 jobs by the end of the decade and is expected to create at least 600 additional jobs in the region through its suppliers.
More than 130,000 Sprinters have been assembled in North Charleston and delivered to destinations in the U.S. since 2006. The U.S. is now the second largest market for Sprinter vans, after Germany.
