JOB PURPOSE:

The Data Engineer will be part of the data engineering team within ITS Clinical, responsible for the delivery and management of data solutions in support of Clinical Science and Operations (CSO). S/he will be responsible for architecting and building data solutions and services to facilitate end user data access across a wide range of business functions. S/he is expected to build upon the existing data architecture and solutions and develop valued added products and services to enable the business operation in a more efficient and effective manner. S/he also aims at optimizing the way solution are used and facilitating business process improvements in collaboration with the Service Owner and Service Line Leader.

In a fast-changing technology environment, S/he will be expected to continuously improve the services in his/her scope by bringing new capabilities through new technology innovation in close collaboration with the Service Line teams both at Global and Local level.

S/he will be expected to act as part of the domain experts team and work closely with other teams within the Service Line and cross functionally ITS teams on troubleshooting the sophisticated and complex data issues and deliver best in class solutions on data in supporting of clinical operations today and tomorrow.

SUPERVISED RESOURCES / MAIN INTERFACES:

It’s an individual contributor role. Main Interfaces will be:

• Business: Clinical Science and Operation Teams

• ITS R&D Clinical Data Management teams (Architects, Service Line Leaders, Service Managers etc.)
• ITS Business Partners
• ITS Program and Project Managers
• ITS Tech/Infrastructure
• ITS QC & ITS Cyber Security
• AMS (Application Management Services) team
• Vendors, Partners and SaaS providers (Cloud providers like AWS and Google, BI solution providers like Qlik)

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Build and communicate the solution portfolio roadmap

• Understand business vision, propose solutions and prioritize activities aligned with business objectives
• Contribute to the data platform and solutions lifecycle management roadmaps
• Promote industry best practices and proven technological innovations in her/his domain
• Provide guidance on database technology direction

Service Delivery & Optimization

• Investigate data quality issues to determine root causes, resolve issues and recommended process change to prevent re-occurrence
• Implement standardized, automated operational and quality control processes to deliver accurate and timely data and reporting to meet or exceed business expectations
• Embraces operations topics such as business continuity, application monitoring, end-users, security to secure seamless integration into production
• Maximizes level of automation to limit outages
• Advises when support team needs to be triggered and contributes problem description and solving
• Facilitates experience sharing between Sanofi ITS and service recipients facing similar challenges
• Propose the needed functional evolutions for her/his solutions’ portfolio
• Participate as main actor to the crisis management processes with ITS-Tech, external partner and Business stakeholders
• Adapt the solution portfolio to evolving ITS standards and technology evolution
• Coordinate with the database administration group to ensure day-to-day activities (archives, statistics collection and disk defragmentation) are performing in the most efficient manner
• Monitor the DRP testing if appropriate

Design, Build, Deployment

• Work with Business to understand analysis use cases and data access needs
• Design and develop ETL flows with enterprise-grade tools involving large sets of data
• Build data products and service processes to perform data transformation, metadata extraction and error processing management
• Design, develop, implement and document new type of services or applications to enable easy data access across a wide range of business functions
• Implement, document and maintain processing pipeline, databases and data warehouse infrastructure
• Collaborate with Data Architects, Business SMEs and Data Scientists/Analysts to architect data products and services
• Operate using agile methodologies to secure rapid and repetitive deliverables
• Provide functional and technical expertise to solution design, ensuring business understanding, supporting business process improvements or evolutions, ensuring the execution of functional specifications, workload evaluations
• Ensure compliance with Legal, Regulatory and internal recommendations and standards (ITS QC, ITS Security, Architecture etc.)

Participate as ITS functional/technical expert teams

• Ensure a shared understanding of business stakes among the team
• Contribute to the projects delivering solutions that is related to her/his solution
• Contribute to define the solution support model and onboard new applications in her/his scope
• Identify opportunities for improvement and propose innovative use of technology or new way of working to drive operational excellence

JOB-HOLDER REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor's or above degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Management, or related scientific or technical discipline (or comparable education & experience).

Experience & knowledge:

• A minimum of 6+ year relevant experiences, preferably in a Pharma, Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, Clinical Research Operations or related environment
• Experiences in a data engineering role, ideally in an environment dealing with complex data and processes
• Strong and hands-on experience on databases such as SQL, or Oracle, preferably with Teradata
• Proficient in using database querying tools and able to write complex queries and procedures in SQL
• Strong technical skills in ETL tools and frameworks, preferably with Informatica
• Good experience with programming/scripting languages such as Python, JaveScript
• Experience and knowledge of analytics tools including R and SAS
• Experience in collecting, preparing data and performing analysis in Python, or R
• Knowledge with Cloud computing environments and technologies, such as AWS, GCP etc.
• Able to work in a multi-task, multi-cultural, fast-paced global environment while still maintaining attention to details
• Good communication skills oral and written
• Fluent in English language, written and oral

Desirables:

• Strong technical knowledge and experience with Teradata is a great advantage
• Experience in design and implementation with Big Data solutions and distributed applications
• Knowledge of Clinical Data Management processes and Clinical Data Acquisition
