Job Description

We are looking for an Image Quality Engineer for the HoloLens Sensor Team with responsibilities for ongoing image quality tuning of image sensors used in HoloLens. The HoloLens Sensor Team is responsible for design, characterization, and integration of sensors including camera modules, inertial motion sensors, and other environmental sensors.

Responsibilities

• Drive image signal processor (ISP) tuning work for RGB, monochrome, and other image sensor types.
• Perform subjective analysis of images and video captured from custom cameras to identify IQ issues in areas such as exposure control, color rendering, lens shading, etc.
• Work with software teams to correct algorithm issues.
• Make configuration changes to ISP block parameters to resolve issues and improve image quality.
• Characterize image quality aspects of sensors and custom camera modules including noise performance, spectral response, color uniformity, etc.
• Benchmark image quality performance of custom cameras against other modern imaging systems including camera phones, point and shoot cameras, etc.
• Work effectively across functional teams including program management, optical engineering, and software engineering.

Qualifications

Qualifications
• BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
• 2+ years of experience in image quality analysis and tuning
• Deep knowledge in image processing algorithms such as demosaic, noise filtering, color correction, lens shading, distortion correction, etc.
• Working knowledge of Matlab and/or ability to use and develop software with scripting languages such as python
• Understanding of CMOS image sensor operation and performance characterization including defective pixels, noise performance, spectral response, etc.
• Experience in tuning image quality to meet both objective performance metrics and subjective analysis requirements.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work across disciplines, including the ability to work with optical engineers, electrical engineers, software algorithm developers, manufacturing engineers, managers, reliability, and vendors.

 

Desired:
• Experience in image quality tuning for modern ISP’s such as Qualcomm SoC’s or similar.
• Experience in working in a photo lab with equipment such as multispectral light booths, light meters, test charts, integrating spheres, etc.
• Experience in working with image quality analysis tools such as Imatest, iQ-Analyzer, etc.
• Experience testing custom lenses and/or camera modules.
