The role, in a nutshell:

Reporting to the COO/CFO, this role offers a rare opportunity to cover the full scope of Legal, Governance, Intellectual and Compliance matters for the Company.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Providing overall legal supervision to the Company, including but not limited to matters related to clients, suppliers, licensees, merchandising, marketing, promotions and events relating to the Company's brand and products. This shall include drafting, revising and support negotiating commercial contracts.
  • Intellectual property: Assisting launch, authorization and registration of Company's new products
  • Liaising closely with the Company's Management and Operational team, to ensure the use of appropriate terms and conditions, appropriate protection of the Company's intellectual property and compliance with laws, regulations and policies
  • Review products’ packaging, marketing materials (online and offline) and advise on legal risks
  • Communicate on compliance across the Company: lead the Code of Ethics and Good Conduct training for onboarding employees, organize refreshers on specific themes and generally advise on compliance issues.
  • Manage the company litigation and disputes in liaison with the Management and external counsel
  • Monitoring of legal requirements and regulations affecting Company operations,ensure all policies and practices are in compliance with legislative requirements and communicate effectively on legal requirements through trainings and presentations
  • Support and maintain professional relations with external service providers and external counsels.
  • Maintain properly updated company data and legal data base
  • Assisting the COO/CFO with any business, governance and other corporate registration, including keeping up-to-date with relevant laws, regulations and policies
  • Perform company secretarial matters including but not limited, announcements, circulars, board papers, board minutes and resolutions and organize board and shareholders meetings;
  • Maintain minutes books, corporate and statutory records and database in a systematic and effective way

Requirements – Skills and abilities

  • Fluent English (writing and speaking) – Other language is a big plus
  • LLB Degree and Equivalent. Qualification in one jurisdiction is a big plus, but open on the jurisdiction.
  • Open to Expatriates with experience (life or work) in China, HK or Asia
  • 5 years’ experience in a similar role either in Legal Management, preferably gained from an international company and/or an international law firm, with emphasis on intellectual property, marketing, commercial trading/distribution and/or branded-related matters. In-house experience (in consumer, retail or tech) is a MUST.
  • Exposure to Intellectual Property Management is BIG plus
  • Experience with HK law landscape and applicable regulations. US laws and/or at least one EU country laws exposure is BIG plus

  • Persuasive and enthusiastic communicator, able to adapt to a non-legal audience to convey practical and business-oriented legal advice and to convince internal stakeholders of the importance of following said advice.
  • Being a good listener, observant and able to identify and defuse any people issues that may affect the team in a bigger way
  • Must be well organized and have good analytical skills, creative and flexible in order to implement changes and improvements based on observation of Company’s needs.
