Job Overview
Convert design concepts into production documentation, maintaining high design/production quality. This will include:
•Identification of the best manufacturing processes for each component
•Identification of critical areas that require further resolution
•Estimation of resources required and design time
•Detailing of all components
•Generation of a bill of materials
•Design packaging for all components/units
•Approving samples and production parts from suppliers
•Approving in house assembly of components
•Generation of installation instructions
•Documentation of decisions made and information discovered
Accountability
•Reports to the Design Director and has responsibilities to, and is expected to involve the BDM and Director of Operations in any decisions that could impact the desired outcome.
•Assumes accountability and responsibility for the design success of final component/assembly/installation. Responsible for project design detail output, design detail approval, meeting deadlines, following up issues and actions.
•Responsible for delegating, management and checking the work carried out by Junior and Casual Designers who may be used on their projects.

Expected Job Tasks
•Develop and detail designs from approved concepts using 3D CAD software
•Draw and document designs through drawing packs and BOM generation
•Call meetings between the relevant departments to discuss/resolve design issues
•Contact suppliers to discuss/resolve design issues
•Conduct tests to test/verify design details
•Build mock ups
•Keep documentation relevant to the project
•As required, review the design and documentation with the Design Director or Senior Detail Designer before being issued
•Monitor, develop and suggest improvements to detail design process
•Remain informed of:
-Retail Trends
-Opposition Displays in store
-Manufacturing methods
-Materials and finishes

Qualifications / Experience / Personal Skills
•Bachelor of Industrial Design degree, or equivalent
•Be able to work on multiple projects at the same time
•Must be able to meet deadlines and have task completion
•Must be adaptable to multiple changes from both client and from within the company
•Needs to be able to generate innovative methods of overcoming design deadlocks
•Needs to have a design eye and be able to resolve aesthetic issues
•Choose the appropriate manufacturing method prior to detail drawing
•Must be conscious of the cost of the design and it’s components including future updates and/or replacements.
•Mechanical aptitude
•Work in team environment
•Good organisational skills
•Proactive

Computer Skills
•Very good knowledge Solid Works 3D modelling package
•Very good knowledge Australian Drawing Standards
•Good knowledge of Excel and Word
•Good knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop & Illustrator
•Database programmes
