Role Summary:
The Industrial Design / UX Leader is responsible for delivering on the Inspection Technologies Industrial Design Strategy and creation and assurance of the Design Language. He/ She will work in close partnership with the CTO of the business as well as the product line product managers and engineering leads / teams.

Essential Responsibilities:

• As Industrial Designer and UX Leader you will be part of the Inspection Technologies Engineering team in our Shanghai, China office. You will drive the corporate design identity of our products from industrial design as well as UX design to drive ease of use for our customers in executing cutting edge NDT applications / inspection and establish brand recognition to drive revenue growth and customer value for Inspection Technologies businesses.
• Working with a team of external user experience professionals as well as internal engineers, you will be responsible for driving the industrial design or redesign of products or product lines within our portfolio.
• You will help grow / update / define a design language for Inspection Technologies.
• You will display the ability to create impressive interactive and visual design solutions, and you will be able to communicate those design ideas in a way that is appropriate for the various stakeholders with whom you will interface.
• You will also work with some of the best external digital agencies along with world-class Industrial designers and UX designers and technology leaders internally, and you will be a core member of a dynamic, exciting, fast-paced, and global team.
• You are responsible for on-time execution of the deliverables through design reviews & tollgates, while ensuring conformance to design practices & procedures, assuring ease of use to execute inspections and delivering on our brand identity.
• Representing the face of high-quality user experience design practices. This includes participation in all aspects of Industrial Design and UX – research, ideation, strategy, interaction design and visual design
• Contribute to the design and development of internal proof of concept (“lighthouse”) projects
• Focus on visual and/or interaction design for the design system and products that you will help build
• Be a subject matter expert in both interaction design and visual design. Be an evangelist for current trends in visual and interaction design for product hardware (systems as well as handhelds) and software on host computer as well as mobile, tablet, desktop and embedded software solutions
• Be a strong evangelist for UX best practices within a cross-disciplinary team, clearly articulating process and role expectations.
• Execute the design of a product or assets for the healthcare design system in a cross-functional environment
• Conduct and participate in design reviews with internal teams that are leveraging assets the design team is creating
• Build relationships with Baker Hughes a GE company businesses to develop and champion differentiating design concepts

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in the following: Anthropology including one of the following Graphic/Visual Design, Interaction Design
• Portfolio demonstrating successful examples of conceptual designs, prototypes, and final design patterns used in commercialized products and the process used to generate these outcomes.
• A minimum of 4 years of experience and strong working knowledge of goal-directed, user-centered principles, processes and methodologies
• A minimum of 4 years professional experience as a visual and interaction designer
• A minimum of 4 years of experience and strong working knowledge of site design; proficiency in principles of Web and application design (HTML, XHTML, CSS, JS) (Don’t get me wrong – these are great skills to have, but if we are looking for a visual designer, do we need this skill set vs. prioritizing design research skills?)
• Significant management/ leadership experience in a matrix structure organization
• Proven ability to be a real change agent

Desired Characteristics:

• Ability to work in a Mac environment on the latest Adobe products (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
• A demonstrated understanding of interaction and visual design, and the ability to create unrivaled interfaces that solve hard problems with elegant interaction solutions and visual execution
• Strong communications (written and verbal), negotiation, and problem solving skills
• Ability to travel internationally up to 30%, including overnight stays
• Solid understanding of Industrial Design and UX methodology and Agile processes
• Basic knowledge of project planning and execution
