Job Description

LOCATION: The University of Chicago in Hong Kong on Victoria Road, Mount Davis.

 

GENERAL SUMMARY: The IT/AV Manager will oversee the Information Technology and Audio/Video systems of the University of Chicago Hong Kong Campus. The Manager will be the main liaison with the IT Departments on main campus in Chicago and external service providers.

The position’s main responsibility is to ensure the smooth and efficient running of all aspects of the Campus’ IT/AV systems and operations, and to work extensively with internal constituents, team members, and external service providers to achieve a well-functioning and efficient Information Technology and Audio Visual environment. The role will include supervising ad-hoc on-site support staff.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Set up, operating, maintaining and supporting computer equipment (including the physical installation and patching of network equipment) in the campus including Windows/Mac PCs/laptops, virtual PCs, and providing resolution of related problems.
  • Manage audio-visual equipment including data projectors, video conferencing, remote teaching, class/event recording and sound systems in the campus.
  • Oversee IT/AV systems and provide 1st line IT/AV diagnosis & office equipment support for hardware and software issues, escalate faults as necessary, and organize technical support and follow-up.
  • Liaise with Global IT teams, Business Units, external vendors and service providers on technical design, delivery and support.
  • Assist IT/AV budget planning and control, and implementation of IT/AV related policy.
  • Assist in IT/AV projects by coordinating resources to ensure that the projects are successfully completed.
  • Provide onsite and event IT/AV support, work outside normal office hours may be required occasionally.
  • Handle network issues reported by users, user requests and enquiries.
  • Plan and carry out scheduled system maintenance works and equipment testing procedures.
  • Coordinate with headquarters in Chicago to support and enhance daily operations in Yuen Campus in Hong Kong.
  • Conduct regular inventory and documentation check and update; replenish supplies as and when needed.
  • Track and manage computer and audio-visual hardware inventory and liaise with Chicago regarding replacement as needed.
  • Assist IT Director in Chicago and Director of Operations in Hong Kong office to perform any ad-hoc projects or tasks.
  • Provide training to staff in the use of Windows and MacOS applications and AV equipment as needed.

  • Show ability to work efficiently with minimal direction and to anticipate issues and problems
  • Effectiveness of operational IT support and vendors /IT AV management
  • Overall rate of efficiency, accuracy, timeliness and organization of all assigned tasks

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Degree holder in Information Systems, Computer Science or other related disciplines. Candidates without degree may be assessed based on work experience
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in IT and 3 years of AV setup and operation experience with 2 years in supervisory role
  • Experience in a higher-education environment is desired, but not required
  • Good technical knowledge in server, web, mobile, Cloud technology, PC configurations and troubleshooting
  • Experience with CISCO, Crestron control systems and Mediasite Video Management system, mobile apps, web conferencing, Teleconferencing, and Video Conferencing systems, etc.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft office (especially Excel, Word, PPT) and Adobe required
  • Able to read and follow process-flow and network diagrams for diagnostic purposes
  • Collaborative work style and innovative while being independent, resourceful and willingness to take a ‘hands-on’ approach in a small to medium-sized organization
  • Self-motivated, goal oriented with technical leadership ability
  • Excellent Interpersonal skills, organizational skills, initiative and attention to details
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills in English and Cantonese required. Mandarin language helpful.
  • Must be able to work legally in Hong Kong on a permanent basis (HK citizen or PR)

The salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience. In addition to salary the University offers an attractive benefits package including 20 days holiday per year – prorated (excl. Hong Kong Public Holidays), MPF contribution, private medical insurance offered.
