The Opportunity at AIA

The Infrastructure Engineer role is a pivotal member of the Infrastructure and Technology Operations team and will contribute to the successful enablement of the AIA ANZ enterprise-wide IT strategy, vision and roadmap. You’ll be part of a trans-Tasman team, reporting into the Infrastructure Delivery Manager in Melbourne.

As a Infrastructure Engineer, you’ll assist in managing third-party technology suppliers and will ensure timely delivery of core infrastructure services. You’ll assist in the design, planning, management and implementation of enterprise wide, scalable technologies to support overall IT operations and ensure stable operation of AIA Australia and New Zealand’s Data Centres, systems, storage and communications technology platforms.

Infrastructure Delivery

  • Liaises with relevant stakeholders to understand the structure, policies, and operations of the organisation to recommend and deliver technology infrastructure and network that enable the organisation to achieve its goals.
  • Act as the technical liaison between architects, operations teams and application teams, providing critical operational insight to upcoming implementations and strategies, including validation of ongoing solutions supportability.
  • Validate and audit current infrastructure architecture and present recommendations
  • Assist with planning and implementing systems and application integrations
  • Ensures all solutions adhere to all local, regional, global AIA policies and regulatory, security and governance procedures and processes.
  • Ensure comprehensive disaster recovery architecture and operations, including storage area network and redundant, highly-available server and network architectures.
  • Hands-on technical depth that enables direct oversight, problem-solving leadership and participation for complex infrastructure implementation, system upgrades and operational troubleshooting.
  • Manage, plan and implement necessary End of Life and/or version currency in technology infrastructure and network assets.
  • Participates in change, incident and problem management processes for technology infrastructure and network assets.
  • Facilitates verification & documentation of AIA technology infrastructure and network requirements.
  • Manage business expectations by clearly defining Service Levels and agreed turnaround times whilst utilising the AIA ticketing system.

Leadership

  • Role model and strong leadership/change management experience to compliment professional technology infrastructure and network standards.
  • Take responsibility for making key decisions to ensure the successful implementation of all technology infrastructure initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and implement constructive change.
  • High level of customer focused service – highly people oriented, proactive and focused on continuous improvement, accountability and innovation.

About you:

  • Minimum 5 years’ technical experience within enterprise environments with a focus on data centres and facilities, servers, storage, network, data protection, cloud platforms and related enterprise software across these technology stacks
  • Infrastructure engineering experience with strong Windows/Linux Server design, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with multi-tenant architecture and cloud integrations is highly valued.
  • Financial Services and/or Insurance Industry experience is advantageous.
  • ITIL Certification, or demonstrable experience within ITIL organisation.
  • Solid understanding of business needs and customer focus beyond technical/technology aspects
  • Experience with regulatory compliance, IT compliance and security controls.
  • Experience working on and delivery of technology enabled projects.
