Overview:
To drive the development and implementation of Infrastructure initiatives and align business requirements with best practice. The key themes of the ISTE function are to organise and innovate the delivery Infrastructure resources within SDL. The ISTE role be responsible for standardising using best practice techniques to ensure repeatability and consistency. The ability to streamline provisioning and delivery processes are also key aspects to the success of this role.The Infrastructure Technical Specialist will have a passion for technology and will be seen as someone who innovates and leads with authority to maintain a highly functional, stable and reliable working environment for our user base.
There will be a strong release element associated to the role with primary involvement in authorising and implementing customisations and applications to the desktop environment. The management of such releases is a key element within the role so to ensure integrity and standards over our desktop environment.
Main Duties:
- Provide technical expertise for all internal Server Infrastructure (both Physical and Virtual)
- Work with relevant teams to remove or simplify infrastructure as required
- Advise and assist the Compliance and Support teams as required
- Develop migration paths for existing (at risk) services and collaborate with other delivery functions to assist with relocations as required.
- Build internal standards for infrastructure provisioning
- Assist in managing the mechanism for audit tracking internal infrastructure
- Assess and improve infrastructure performance, simplify storage requirements
- Collaborate with the Network services team to lifecycle Network equipment and standardise on device acquisition
- Adopt the cloud first strategy for internal systems where possible and align with the cloud services team as required
- Assist with the technical development and administration of a global system monitoring platform
- Identify and promote shared applications and infrastructure across the organisation to reduce costs
- Provide expertise in your service area and feed relevant findings into the overall Technology Services strategy
- Advise on system changes and work to support the change management process by attending meetings providing relevant expertise
- Work with the PMO function as required to advise and deliver on infrastructure projects as defined
- Document, publish and maintain key information relating to system processes and architecture; utilising documentation tools, standard templates and the document approval processes
- Develop and adhere to appropriate standards and security policies to ensure risks associated with information and IT assets are minimalized
- Provide support, direction, guidance and training to the Global IT Service Delivery function as required.
Experience Required:
- Strong knowledge of security in Active Directory.
- Role Based Access (JIT – JEA)
- Windows server and desktop. 2008-2016. Windows 7 – Windows 10.
- Virtual and Remote Desk infrastructure and technologies
- AD, email, web, application and database services
- Knowledge of virtualisation technologies (VMware, Hyper-V, Vcenter and SCVMM)
- Nimble Storage and FC SAN
- Veeam backup
- SCCM
- Exposure to cloud service
- Demonstrates strong ISTE Architectural knowledge
- Provide guidance to senior management on ISTE technologies, best practices in regards to security technologies
- Focused on security whilst minimising admin and repeat processes through automation.
- Strong scripting knowledge with an aptitude for basic programming logic (PowerShell, Python)
- Adhere to development and release principles, setting standards for build quality, versioning, documentation, testing and release strategy.
