The R&D Instructional Designer, Global Learning Solutions (GLS) reports to the R&D Instructional Design Manager, with responsibilities to support Global Learning & Performance (GL&P) Learning Professionals in R&D across all regions and sites in US, Europe, Intercontinental, and JAPAC.   

This position is responsible for designing and developing learning solutions that are aligned with the organization’s objectives and strategies and with business needs.  The ID demonstrates best practices in Instructional Design while delivering best-in-class performance support, training, and communications solutions for clients.  The ID follows creative design standards to ensure all assigned deliverables are met. 

The ID owns end-to-end instructional design responsibilities for training projects (e.g., Training needs analysis, design documentation, writing and editing of creative deliverables, adept use of tools and templates, and quality control of final deliverables).  The ID produces deliverables such as content outlines, design documents, style guides/templates, storyboards, infographics, workshop materials, performance support tools, and eLearning modules.

The ID collaborates across the GL&P community and the Capability Center to ensure that GLS is adding value and meeting business needs.  The ID ensures learning content is produced effectively, efficiently, and in line with the priorities identified by functional governance.

Basic Qualifications:

Master’s degree

OR

Bachelor’s degree AND 2 years of Learning & Performance experience

OR

Associate’s degree AND 6 years of Learning & Performance experience

OR

High school diploma / GED AND 8 years of Learning & Performance experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design.

  • 2 or more years of experience in training or instructional design within the pharmaceutical industry.

  • 2 or more years of experience developing eLearning, ILT, OJT, performance support, and other learning solutions.

  • Experience conducting training needs analysis in order to identify appropriate learning solutions.

  • Experience supporting training projects from beginning to end.

  • Experience creating deliverables for Research and Development clients, including training related to compliance (e.g., Good Clinical Practice, Pharmacovigilance, inspection readiness) and clinical trial execution.

  • Experience in clinical trial-related role and / or knowledge of the clinical trial / drug development process.

  • Expertise partnering with R&D clients to create engaging and comprehensive programs that elevate technical expertise for key roles in Research, Global Regulatory Affairs and Safety, Global Development, and Global Medical Affairs.

  • Strong consulting skills.

  • Prior experience with learning technology solutions and eLearning design software;  experience working with rapid design solutions.

  • Collaborative work style with ability to solicit input, influence, and support decision making.

  • Project management skills.

  • Strong service orientation and high standards of excellence and business enablement.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Consults with functional learning partners to ensure the most appropriate learning solutions are proposed.

  • Provides end-to-end instructional design support on learning projects.

  • Employs ID best practices in the execution of project deliverables, including design documents, content outlines, workshop materials, performance support tools, and eLearning modules.

  • Works - as needed - with vendors, shared service providers, and contract workers to develop and deliver training deliverables.

  • Supports the identification—and if needed, the creation—of media assets.

  • Works with learning clients to ensure governance, design, and development processes are followed.

  • Maintains functional partnerships with appropriate functional representatives.

  • Provides thought leadership on new and innovative approaches to Instructional Design.

  • Executes on the annual goals of the group and the department.

  • Partners with GL&P colleagues to identify opportunities for collaboration, process improvement, and resource sharing.

  • Some travel – approximately 10%.
