Job Description
Position Overview The Integration, Test & Approval Manager (subsequently referred to as “test manager”) is responsible for the technical quality of all R&D product designs and design updates. In this important product lifecycle management function, the test manager authorizes all R&D releases to manufacturing. Through appropriate selection of testing strategies, the test manager drives efficient and systematic test coverage and execution, which includes test automation, defect tracking, and test progress reporting. The test manager reports directly to the local R&D director, manages a small team of testing professionals, and works closely with R&D project managers and design engineers. The test manager also ensures timely R&D response as needed to support multiple global sites for manufacturing and service. Responsibilities Throughout the lifecycle of all aspects of the process gas chromatograph, the test manager selects the testing strategy for unit, integration, and system testing. Derives and reports systematic test coverage from requirements and specifications plays a central role in this position. The test manager specifies, assigns, and coordinates the necessary testing resources, and ensures availability of appropriate testing tools, instrumentation. Motivates and coordinates direct reports and testing resources in a distributed environment. Develops and guides direct reports in all aspects of people management, and works with the line managers of all testing resources to secure their assignments and availability. Regularly evaluates the state of the art for testing methods, tools, and processes, and recommends the implementation of testing improvements. Advances test automation within the R&D department to drive the overall efficiency and quality of test execution. Works closely with the R&D project managers, design engineers, and test professionals to create and maintain estimates for the overall project plan for required test time and effort. Regularly reviews the backlog of product defects to help prioritize their resolution with the available time and resources. Together with the hardware and software R&D managers, advises the R&D director in setting product development priorities, budgets, and personnel strategies. Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience Education: Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline. Experience: 8+ years as testing professional in a product development environment with at least 2+ years in a Managerial capacity. Travel required: 10% or less Expertise in design of systematic product testing, test execution, and selection of testing strategies. 2 years of experience with a programming language suitable for test automation. Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience Certification as a test professional, for example CSTP (Certified Software Test Professional), CSTM (Certified Software Test Manager), or ISTQB Test Manager. Demonstrated responsibility and execution during a development project from kickoff to test planning, execution, and release to manufacturing. Significant involvement in an external product approval process, preferably general product safety, explosion protection, functional safety, or similar. Experience managing remote resources.
