Student Engineering interns in Product Engineering work to support the achievement of module and group targets for quality and timing. The qualified student can expect to complete moderately complex tasks in a production and product engineering environment while applying existing experience and learning new and valuable skills. They work semi-independently under the guidance of one or more module leaders to support analysis of problems, development, validation and implementation of solutions, and collect necessary data to confirm solution effectiveness. The selected student intern will also be expected to develop a network to the Center of Competence and to plant process partners in support of assigned activities.
The qualified intern should expect to contribute & improve in the following functions:
- Supports current engineering tasks, quality assurance, design engineering, analysis and validation, process improvement initiatives, as well as assist in ongoing workflows
- Supports the Module Leaders in the achievement of agreed upon module and process chain targets
- Supports design and release of components within the modules through 3-D model analyses, prototype development and production, and testing and validation on fixtures as well as on customer cars
- Supports development of solutions to highly complex or (un)usual technical problems which require regular use of ingenuity and innovation.
- Presentation preparation on solutions, as well as present data and results to management
- Understands and implements VPS (Value Added Production System) Principles and concepts of Standard Work and Problem Solving

- Degree pursuit of a bachelor or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related degree
- Prior internship in another BMW department – preferred
- Proven classwork and projects related to engineering/manufacturing
- 1+ years of problem-solving and communication experience
- 1+ years manufacturing experience preferred
- 1+ years knowledge of automotive technologies preferred
- 1+ years effective presentation to teams on technical and project issues experience.
- 1+ years’ experience with on-line and media communications software or apps, such as Skype, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, TikTok, Google, Facebook, etc.
- Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (not just in major).
- Have full-time status at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States.
- Completed at least 30 credit hours at time of application.
- Ability to work full-time (40 hours / week).
- Transfer students must have a GPA from current university.
- Must attach an onofficial transcript when applying
- Complete and pass a substance abuse test before the work term.
- The work term dates for this postion are January 3 2022 through May 6 2022
