Intermediate Software Developer (Java) Siemens Mobility Canada is an authority in seamless, sustainable, reliable, and secure transport solutions with more than 160 years of proven success. With our recent acquisition of RailTerm, we are growing our team and hiring an Intermediate Software Developer. RailTerm is a North American corporation that provides rail operation services, including dispatching, track and signal maintenance, and intermodal terminal management. The company also provides signals, communications, and software systems and licenses the TrainMaster Rail Traffic Control (RTC) software to independent railroads. Working with the Director of Software Systems, this Intermediate Software Developer is a member of RailTerm's rail traffic control software development and support team, developing and supporting critical software for railways and transit authorities across North America. You will guide small teams of developers and take projects through initial concept, requirements, design, and delivery. We are looking for someone who is organized, analytical, and has a strong desire to learn new skills. What Your Day-to-Day will look like: Develop high-quality software both at a high (architecture) and low (detailed implementation) level. Continuous learning of both railway and software development concepts. Collaborate with other members of the software development team to solve problems. Review and provide constructive feedback on code. Analyze business needs to determine software requirements. Train and educate users on a variety of topics relating to the software. Actively participate in meetings. Suggest changes in processes based on observations. Create documentation related to the design and use of the software and related systems. Assist with the testing of new software releases and report issues as needed. Implement and deploy software releases and system upgrades. Provide support for software applications to both through phone and email communications. Required Skills and Qualifications: 5+ years experience with Java. Strong verbal and written English communication skills. Knowledge of Object-Oriented principals and design patterns. Experience with HTML, JavaScript, JSON, SQL. Understanding of Windows operating system. Experience delivering software to customers. Works well in a team environment local and remotely, but also effectively on their own Strong communication skills, able to explain technical issues to non-technical clients Ability to cultivate business relationships based on trust and professionalism Ability to work between midnight and 4 am once a month to release our internal client updates. Bachelors of Computer Science (Information Systems) or an equivalent combination of education and work experience in a related field Assets: Bilingual (English & French) Experience with UX and User Interface Design Experience with SpringBoot and Maven Experience with networking. Experience with Angular With the current COVID situation, this position will be remote with the expectation has a suitable workspace and internet connection. This position is expected to transition to work out of our Mississauga office (maintaining flexible work arrangements) as COVID restrictions are lifted.
