Job Description
Intern – AI Safety Verification of Intelligent Systems The Research in Software and Systems Innovation (SSI) department, as an integral part of Siemens Technology (T), plays a vital role in Siemens' R&D efforts. With a team of highly competent and experienced scientists, we are committed to being the preferred partner for innovation. Our goal is to develop cutting-edge technologies with broad applicability that enable Siemens to successfully introduce groundbreaking products to market. We have a global presence, with our scientists located across the world, working collaboratively to create and maintain Siemens' technological edge in the critical areas of automation, electrification, and industrial digitization. Siemens’ central research and development arm sees itself as a strategic partner to the company’s businesses. It plays a key role in achieving and maintaining leading competitive positions in the fields of electrification and automation while at the same time helping Siemens fully tap into the growth field of digitalization. At the core of Siemens’ business are complex software-intensive systems that apply AI technology. Siemens factory automation, smart building, power grid control, and other technologies depend on the safe operation of those AI-based software systems. Thus, the verification of AI-based systems has become a lot more challenging. Methods to ensure safe and reliable operation for traditional industrial systems are no longer sufficient. Thus, it is essential for the future success of our businesses to advance the state of the art and enable the use of artificial intelligence in the industrial domain. Siemens Technology is actively seeking a Summer Intern to join our team in the field of AI Safety Verification of Intelligent Systems. The primary objective of this internship is to investigate and develop approaches for automated verification of Machine Learning (ML) algorithms, with a focus on demonstrating the safety of AI systems based on divergent failure modes using technology modalities. Specifically, we are interested in detecting flaws that arise from inconsistencies between two signals. The successful candidate will work on developing innovative approaches to analyze the safety of ML-based systems. What are my responsibilities? Thoroughly understanding and analyzing the available academic literature to identify existing approaches and results that can be repurposed. Combining existing approaches to develop and implement a new approach that demonstrates the feasibility of the safety concept. Presenting and effectively communicating research findings to the research team, fostering productive discussions and idea-sharing. What skills are needed to qualify for this position? Currently pursuing a MS/PhD degree in Computer Science / Data Science / Software Engineering, or other related subject with a strong focus on Formal Verification Proficient software development skills, particularly in Python, and experience with AI development frameworks such as Tensorflow Strong knowledge and experience with Data Analytics methods, particularly Machine Learning Preferred experience with object detection and localization techniques and the ability to improve classification results or reduce misclassifications. Experience in high fidelity simulation and modeling Experience in evaluating and enhancing the safety of intelligent systems. Familiarity with standard software development processes, methodologies, and best practices, including requirements analysis, software architecture and design, and verification. Background knowledge in ML learning is assumed. Excellent communication skills with fluency in spoken and written English.
