Yard personnel (Hostler) are responsive to the yard Supervisor regarding the movement of trailers to facilitate the needs of the production docks. Yard personnel are responsible for timely movements and thorough knowledge of our yard management software (Pinc) system used to track trailer movements and positioning. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Responsible to maintain a neat and orderly trailer storage yard oriented toward maximizing efficiency in servicing the plant needs. 2. Operate Yard Truck in a safe manner during numerous roll-on/roll-off procedures daily involving loaded and empty trailers. 3. Drive and operate vehicle under 15 mph in and around the plant and storage yard area. 4. Be cognizant of the reality that the operation is a low mileage severe duty function requiring particular attention to preventive maintenance checks and services of the vehicles that they are driving. 5. Must be aware that operations occur on asphalt, concrete and gravel surfaces in a hostile environment often contaminated with material subject to embedding in tires. 6. Must function and interact on a daily basis with plant personnel and comply with plant safety requirements. 7. Communicate using cellular telephone or 2-way radio with dispatch, operations, and plant personnel. 8. Security of valuable commodities and the storage area itself are a major area of concern for the Yard personnel, occasionally requiring guidance from supervisory personnel regarding disposition. 9. Duties and Tasks as assigned by Management. MISCELLANEOUS: Using our yard management software (Pinc) our yard personnel must keep accurate, neat and timely records to ensure the overall successful operation of the plant and transportation functions. Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections. Good customer service skills. Be in excellent physical condition and be able to stand, sit, kneel, bend, lift, push, pull for extended periods, get in and out of our yard trucks several times per hour. Experience with yard-jockey/spotter and/or truck/spotter preferred. Report any repair issues on trailers to our Maintenance department.
