Job Description
Position Title: International Communications Specialist
Role statement: We’re looking for a talented bilingual communication professional to join XJTLU’s Communications team. The ideal candidate is passionate about international engagement, promoting higher education and about creating campaigns and stories that will help build XJTLU’s international and domestic reputation as a leader in learning, teaching and research. The incumbent will have a strong background in communication, content development, international media relations and translation.
Responsibilities:
Help plan and coordinate content for complex publications and editorial projects targeting international and Chinese audiences such as prospectuses, brochures, magazines or annual reports as assigned
Write, edit and translate materials in English and in Chinese including (but not limited to) marketing communications, student recruitment campaigns, web content, stories and articles, newsletters, media releases, event promotion, background information, video scripts, speeches and reports;
- Edit original English/Chinese material developed by other departments for use in the XJTLU website, news reports or other publications noted above while ensuring accuracy, coherent messaging and a consistent voice;
- Help to develop communication strategies to generate earned media coverage for XJTLU in Chinese or international media platforms;
- Organise and participate in media relationship maintenance activities, from general communications and receptions to annual hospitality events; discuss and plan media promotion package for the University are both effective and on budget;
- Help develop and maintain XJTLU’s network of Chinese and international media contacts including handling media enquiries;
- Inviting and hosting media to cover the key University events, including the coordination of schedules, briefings and other logistical requirements as required
- Writing press releases for the domestic and international media;
- Planning and organizing international PR events or campaigns;
- Other duties as assigned. Requirements:
- Master’s degree or equivalent professional qualification in journalism, communications, public relations or related fields;
- Excellent writing skills in both Chinese and English
- Excellent English and Chinese translation skills
- Ability to communicate fluently in both English and Chinese
- More than three years of experience in a communications management in a corporate or institutional setting is essential; minimum of three years of directly relevant experience in a university environment and in-depth knowledge of higher education is preferred;
- More than three years of experience in managing domestic media and international media relations in higher education is preferred
• Experience working with creative teams to develop complex projects such as news, stories, feature reports, collateral materials, web and digital content, and advertising; • Cross-cultural communication skills and experience of working with people from diverse backgrounds;
- Flexibility to work some nights and weekends is essential.

- Highly productive self-starter with excellent organisational and time management skills; able to manage multiple projects and effectively manage competing priorities and tight deadlines;
- Well-developed interpersonal, negotiation and communication abilities;
- The ability to speak publicly, to interact with different internal and external clients, and to represent the University Marketing and Communication office with a high level of professionalism
- An ability to work autonomously and effectively on multiple projects;
- Creative and flexible with ability to develop new approaches to advance goals and objectives
- Tactful and enthusiastic with a “can-do” attitude; able to function effectively in a fast-paced environment under public scrutiny;
- A team player who is able to work with a diverse range of people across various levels of the University to achieve a common goal while maintaining the ability to think independently.
