UNICEF and China government have a long cooperation on the promotion of early childhood education (ECE) both at policy and practice levels in the past forty years, during which UNICEF supported ECE pilots in about 100 counties before 2010. The cooperation greatly contributed the policy and plan of universalization of the ECE in 2010. Afterword's, a series of national policy and quality standards have been issued, for example, the Early Learning and Development Guidelines for Children Aged 3-6 (ELDG 3-6, 2012) as a leading guidance document is being implemented nationwide for quality improvement practices at all levels. All cooperation projects have been greatly supported by China National Society of Early Childhood Education (CNSECE) and its core members.

CNSECE is a national level academic organization and a member of OMEP, which is composed of institutions and individuals engaged in preschool education, such as normal universities, preschool education and scientific research units, educational administration departments, newspapers and magazines and publishers etc. CNSECE is planning its 40th anniversary celebration and wanting us to provide some key historical documents, which is inspiring us to take actions to file and review ECE project records and documents because it is a meaningful institutional memory of counterparts and UNICEF and a response to our 30th CRC celebration this year. It could also contribute to the UN documentation for 40 years Anniversary of UN in China.

The services of 3-4 interns are required to undertake the work.

How can you make a difference?

The purpose of the internship is to document UNICEF-China cooperation history on ECE/CEC through E-filing and reviewing ECE project records and interview the program focal points.

  • lessons from UNICEF China Cooperation on ECD/ECE for further collaboration
  • compilation of UNICEF work on ECD/ECE for archives management.

The expected result - A yearly E-filing and a written history document will be presented, accompanied with interview report. A chronicle of UNICEF-China cooperation on ECE is ready for the further edit and use for advocacy, e.g. sharing it on our own or CNSECE's official website.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have

  • Advanced university degree in early childhood education and development with research background in early childhood education;
  • Excellent writing skills;
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software, and e-filing skills
  • Ability to work independently and under tight deadlines.
