In this role, you have the opportunity to

Work on a novel patient monitoring modality which can have dramatic impact in the future towards improving critical care.

You are responsible for

• Performing a thorough literature review on the assigned topic

• Processing and analyzing experimental data collected with a custom-built experimental setup using different sensing modalities (including accelerometers and piezo pressure sensors)

• Building a classifier

• Supporting the development of a computer model to simulate the physical measurement principle.

• Writing a report and/or a conference/journal publication

• Presenting key findings in a final internship presentation

You are a part of

The Patient Care & Measurements (PCM) Department at Philips Research which develops breakthrough solutions in unobtrusive and wearable monitoring tailored to key care environments and patient journeys. We investigate new concepts, sensors and algorithms to enable the monitoring of human vital signs in various clinical and non-clinical settings.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Applied Physics or a related discipline.

• A solid background in signal processing, in particular image processing and experience with machine learning tools such as neural network, support vector machines, decision trees, etc. Prior biomedical signal processing experience will be a plus.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

• Excellent programming skills in MATLAB or Python.

• A willingness to study essential physiology.

• Experience in computer modeling and simulation is also a plus.
