Job Description
Teachers assist in the operation of the company by leading classes and overseeing classrooms throughout the day.
Teachers must be willing to demonstrate flexibility in terms of the scope of this position.
They are expected to assist with:
a) Mission -- deliver a quality educational experience on a daily basis;
b) Ethos -- create a culture of respect and positivity for students, staff and parents;
c) Leadership -- serves as a dynamic presence both inside and outside of the classroom;
d) Teaching -- offer classes appropriate to the curriculum and the ability of the students; and,
e) Curriculum -- help to refine and evolve Sunshine Home’s educational materials.
2. Work Profile
Teachers are expected to be available for work five (5) days per week. There may occasionally be a modification of
the schedule to support special events and activities.
3. Duties
The following is a list of the duties that may be asked of a teacher. From time to time it may be necessary to ask
teacher to perform duties beyond this list in order to meet the needs of company operations.
a) Mission
i. Execute Sunshine Home’s mission to provide a quality education in a safe and happy environment.
ii. Work with all staff and students to realize their full potential.
iii. Deliver a rich educational experience and enable others to do the same.
iv. Contribute to the educational standards and the curriculum to meet those standards.
b) Ethos and Vision
i. Deliver on the vision for Sunshine Home that reflects its educational values.
ii. Translate this vision into operational plans.
iii. Promote a culture of encouragement, support and challenge to achieve each child’s potential and the
highest possible educational standards.
c) Leadership
i. Be a role model, exemplifying a high standard of teaching and promoting high expectations for all
members of our community.
ii. Maintain an effective partnership with parents and the wider community to support and improve student
achievement and personal development.
iii. Ensure that facilities and equipment are appropriate for current and future needs.
iv. Train teaching assistants and caregivers to meet provide proper care and to meet educational standards.
v. Oversee the integration of new students into the classroom.
d) Teaching and Learning
i. Ensure the preparation and development of relevant teaching materials and programs.
ii. Complete timely observation and monitoring strategies to assess student progress.
iii. Use relevant data to plan subsequent lessons.
iv. Identify areas of improvement for students in need of assistance.
v. Provide nurturing and attentive care to all students.
vi. Develop and implement activities for special events: open house, parent meetings, field trips, etc.
e) Curriculum and Standards
i. Help in the design, implementation and oversight of a curriculum that inspires and engages all students.
ii. Ensure focus on pupil assessment, including timely weekly and semester updates for all students.
iii. Ensure that parents and caregivers are informed about the progress of their child and how they can
support their child’s learning.
iv. Be available for weekly parent meetings.
v. Set up a developmentally appropriate classroom refreshed on a monthly basis.
vi. Ensure that all students are given proper attention and developmental opportunities by all the staff.
4. Personal Skills
a) Act at all times to protect the safety and welfare of children.
b) Work positively and collaboratively within a team environment.
c) Develop and maintain good working relationships with the teaching team and general staff.
d) Show initiative.
e) Be flexible and adaptable to changing company needs.
f) Practice effective communication techniques.
g) Employ positive conflict resolution skills.
h) Maintain the confidentiality of information gained at work.
i) Show respect for cultural diversity.
j) Be willing to contribute and learn.
5. Early Childhood Skills
a) Employ positive behavior management strategies.

d) Be fully conversant with the correct procedures for all emergency situations.
e) Develop an understanding of current practices in early childhood education.
6. Health and Safety Expectations
a) Follow safe and healthy work practices in line with policy and procedures.
b) Take responsibility for identifying hazards during normal work.
c) Respond as required to any accident/incident.
d) Complete Accident Reports when required.
e) Administer first aid and contacting parent/caregivers when required.
f) Work safely and maintain safe conditions within the workplace.
g) Help visitors and volunteers understand our health and safety systems.
