Job Description

 

Primary Purpose
Under the supervision of an LV Quality & Purchasing Supervisor or the department Manager, the LV Quality Team Lead performs internal quality tasks to create error-free, linguistically validated Clinical Outcome Assessments (COAs).

The role performs editing and proofreading of clinical study documents, reconciles discrepancies with internal and external resources as needed and ensures quality tasks are completed in a timely and thorough manner. LV Quality Team Leads also complete complex internal project tasks, participate in meetings to discuss open and emerging business issues, make recommendations for improvements and complete special projects as assigned.

Additionally, the LV Quality Team Lead serves as a first-level escalation point for team members. The role has team management responsibilities including monitoring and assigning work as well as effectively coordinating team projects and/or department work groups.

Essential Functions
* Understands and adheres to company Quality Management System (QMS) requirements.
* Fully comprehends project instructions, relays them appropriately and effectively to translators as well as assists them in resolving issues.
* Communicates with LV colleagues to ensure all quality tasks are completed as required to meet project specifications.
* Maintains up-to-date information in company records and databases, including the appropriate management of project documentation.
* Understands translator feedback systems and utilizes them as needed.
* Reviews and updates translations, including eCOA screen reports, in a timely, efficient and accurate manner.
* Purchases a limited number of services from qualified translators based upon availability, language, expertise, deadlines, cost and other relevant considerations.
* Accurately and efficiently processes feedback on translation work provided by third parties.
* Ensures that all assigned quality tasks are completed as specified within established timelines and that client deliverables are free from errors. 
* Ensures supplementary quality materials needed for shipment are prepared accurately (e.g. certifications).
* Serves as back-up to other LV Quality Team Leads and/or department Supervisors during absences.
* Provides support and guidance to LV Quality Specialists on complex processes, as needed.
* Develops procedures as needed to accommodate new types of client requests or process improvements; documents these procedures and trains staff members on them.
* Completes special projects and/or process initiatives independently as assigned.
* Handles appropriately complex translation methodologies with minimal support from senior team members. 
* Assists management in ensuring all quality tasks are completed in an efficient, accurate, and timely manner.
* Schedules and assigns work within the department according to complexity and staff availability, including modifying work assignments as needed.
* Participates in regularly assessing the performance of assigned team members.
* Handles project escalations appropriately.

* Ability to communicate effectively and to clearly understand project requirements 
* Fluent in written and oral English with the ability to succinctly respond to queries in a timely manner

* Possess the skills to problem solve complex issues independently
* A team player who can collaborate effectively with a diverse group of individuals
* Ability to maintain confidentiality of company information
* Quality focused and detail oriented
* Excellent proofreading and visual comparison skills
* Good understanding of general linguistics 
* Aptitude to work with non-standard file types (e.g. .xml files) and manage very basic formatting tags
* Expert level understanding of English grammar, syntax and semantics
* Ability to effectively assist and support junior colleagues in their work
* Ability to effectively mentor other department colleagues.
* Ability to resolve almost all quality-related issues that arise without needing to consult Team Leads or department management (exceptional circumstances excluded).
* Handles the most complicated LV methodologies independently, including but not limited to PROMIS and other non-standard methodologies.
* Ability to provide leadership for employees and clear direction, goals and objectives in a respectful manner.
* Ability to communicate, make decisions and lead others through changes in procedures, client requirements and other operational issues.
* Ability to complete root cause analysis.

Qualification Profile
* Bachelor’s Degree in Business, English, Foreign Language, Social or Applied Science, or another related field.
* Preferably a minimum of three years’ experience in a fast-paced, professional environment working in Linguistic Validation or with Clinical Outcome Assessments.
* Fluency in a non-English language preferred.
* Translation experience preferred.
* Successful leadership or mentoring experience. Prior supervisory experience preferred.
