Location/Division Specific Information
This position is focused on service delivery excellence for UnityTM Lab Services. UnityTM Lab Services provides services at over 400 customer sites globally. Specific activities relative to the job function could include the portfolio of services provided including: order entry, order management, operating customer procurement systems, stockroom services, material handling, shipping/receiving, chemical tracking, and glass wash operations. May also include lab based tasks including media/reagent preparation and cell culture support operations.
This position is located in Foster City, CA.


How will you make an impact?
Provide glass washing and sterilization services while maintaining a constant supply of clean and sterile lab glass of high quality.
 

What will you do?

  • Daily pickup of utilized glassware, spare parts, and plastics from labs, wash, sterilize, and redistribute to satellite storage areas
  • Perform assemblies of spinner flasks, tubing applications, and additional specialized client glassware
  • Sonication of spare parts
  • Preparation of glassware for transport to other sites
  • May work in a GMP glassware environment; Adhere as needed to all customer cGMP SOP’s; Responsible for maintaining cGMP logs daily as needed; Maintain compliance with cGMP training if required at customer site; Archiving GMP or site equivalent documents
  • Provide glass washing and sterilization services maintaining a constant supply of clean and sterile lab glass of high quality
  • Maintain glassware processing schedules and flexible to fast paced changing priorities
  • Utilization of industrial glass wash and sterilization equipment, including scheduled cleanings, functional tests, and submitting work requests for corrective maintenance
  • Perform inspection of glassware for cracks, breaks, and scratches contacting the Supervisor/Manager/Team Lead with all pertinent information for replacement.
  • Maintain glass wash statistics as decided upon by Thermo Fisher Scientific and customer.
  • Maintain inventory of glassware in locations throughout the facility.
  • Maintain required supplies for glassware washing and sterilization operations.
  • Assist with transport of glassware between multiple sites on an as needed basis
  • Participate in projects and perform other duties as assigned.


How will you get here?
Education:

  • Must possess a High School Diploma/GED
  • Preferably an Associate’s degree.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated verbal, written and presentation skills
  • 0-1 year of progressive relevant experience preferred.
  • Displays a high level of confidentiality for both customer and Thermo Fisher.
  • Must maintain Thermo Fisher Scientifics’ Four-I Values.
  • Experience in laboratory setting or services preferred; experience in cGMP environment preferred
  • Proven excellence in customer service skills.
  • Detail oriented, problem solver, promotes team environment.
  • Computer/software skills. (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Must be proficient with a computer and the Microsoft Office suite of software.
  • Have demonstrated initiative in previous work experience.

Working Conditions:

  • Works primarily at customer locations, in office environment to include cubicles and/or in and around shipping/receiving docks, stock rooms, storage locations and laboratory environments
  • May be required to work independently within customer location
  • Extensive walking/standing may be required for 75-85% of the day
  • May pass through areas where chemical based allergens may be in use (such as penicillin, tetracycline, etc)
  • Must possess motor skills appropriate to the task
  • Must be able to lift, push and pull 30-40 pounds consistently; may be required to lift 50 lbs.
  • May be able to use material handling equipment such as push carts and pallet jacks
  • Depending on area of building, personal protective equipment may be worn to include lab coats, coveralls, hood, facemask, hairnets and/or safety gloves
  • Some areas require steel toe shoes, bump hats and/or safety glasses
  • Must be able to work hours required to get the job done
