Job Description

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Land Strategy Manager, are to: 

 

  • Drive results through high personal proficiency, delegation of tasks, coordinating the work of others, developing/coaching the team and collaborating across teams to innovate and improve processes;
  • Be responsible for managing the site’s land strategy and capacity across farms, ensuring efficient land use and optimized plant health while maintaining requirements of regulatory agencies and quality and compliance guidelines;
  • Collaborate with onsite teams and centralized planning partners to develop and adjust operational plans to ensure highest probability of success;
  • Provide technical leadership and direction to team members including training on complex research protocols and creating operational plans used by staff to deliver in-field research activities;
  • Drive operational improvements, metrics tracking and implementation of best practices at the site and coordinates with corporate team members to ensure consistent practices across Trait and Pipeline Delivery sites;
  • Collaborate with other functions and team members as a Project Leader as needed on regional projects that drive a step change in the way field trial research efforts are conducted with the use of automation, technology innovation, system advancements, and new tools are designed and deployed;
  • Provide leadership and direction in establishing and maintaining a team culture dedicated to the highest level of Environmental Safety and Health (ESH), Regulatory and Quality performance;
  • Be responsible for assuring all team members meet site documentation and training standards and the development of new programs as regulations evolve and change;
  • Participate in the hiring, supervision and onboarding of both temporary and full-time support staff;
  • Perform key people leader processes for assigned employees, including coaching, counseling and performance management;
  • Manage direct reports through motivation, recognition, leadership and providing clear and timely feedback;
  • Engage in community relation activities including but not limited to community volunteer efforts, sustainability activities, and external tours and workshops.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Ph.D. with at least three years of relevant experience or M.S. with a minimum of five years of relevant experience or B.S. with a minimum of seven years of relevant experience;
  • At least three years of demonstrated people leadership experience with seasonal workers and/or full-time employees or managing a team of employees through project management experience;
  • Strong computer skills related to data acquisition, organization and analysis;
  • Demonstrated experience leading people and projects in a collaborative team-based environment;
  • Ability to work extended hours during peak operational seasons, Sept-Dec;
  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Degree focused in Agronomy, Life Sciences, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field;
  • Knowledge and experience with agricultural equipment and row crop production practices and history of leveraging that knowledge in a research environment;
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems while exhibiting situational judgement;
  • Experience with precision agriculture hardware and software;
  • History of implementation of continuous improvements and new innovations through the work on project teams;
  • Experience in Compliance protocols (site responsible researcher).
