Launch & Change Coordination Co-op (Spring 2022)

Job Description

This is a Co-Op position which requires three alternating rotations (e. g. 1st rotation: Spring, 2nd rotation: Fall, 3rd rotation: Summer).

The student Co-op will work in a cross-functional environment with colleagues from other departments at Plant Spartanburg and in Germany.  The student will be exposed to new product content, even before the general public.  They can expect to work side by side with the launch and change coordinators to verify design changes and prepare new content for vehicle production and be involved in high-impact process improvement projects and reporting.

The qualified co-op should expect to contribute & improve in the following functions:

  • Support engineer changes among the launch and change coordinators
  • Develop, manage, and validate component overviews for specific parts of the car
  • Contribute to Test Car build list validation, where the new design changes are verified (i.e. the correct part is being put on the correct vehicle)
  • Support the coordination of Line Trials, where new parts are physically tested in the production environment
  • Investigate design topics through data analysis
  • Report Generation and Maintenance
  • Support projects in this role that focus on efficiency improvements and data accuracy
  • Lead workshops to define the current process and outline areas of opportunity
  • Complete various process mapping exercises (e.g. process flow, swim lane, etc.)
  • Implement solutions to improve efficiency in systematic based processes

  • Pursuing a BS or Graduate Degree in Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, or other relevant degree
  • Proven experience in MS Excel and Office Suite knowledge;
  • VBA (or Python) and JAVA skills highly preferred
  • Strong computer aptitude (ability to learn BMW Group systems, SAP, SQL, etc.)
  • Ability to manage many projects and responsibilities in a structured manner
  • Ability to work independently and show initiative
  • Knowledge or experience of manufacturing processes and workflows preferred
  • German language is a plus
  • Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (not just in major).
  • Have full-time status at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States.
  • Completed at least 30 credit hours at time of application.
  • Ability to complete 3 alternating work terms for Co-op positions. 
  • Ability to work full-time (40 hours / week).
  • Transfer students must have a GPA from current university.
  • Must Attach an unofficial transcript upon applying 
  • Complete and pass a substance abuse test before the work term. 
  • The work term dates for this position are January 3 2022 through May 6 2022
