Eaton’s electrical sector is currently seeking a Lead Design Engineer to join our team. This position is based at our Moon Township, PA location. Position Overview: Perform product design engineering for Eaton’s Molded Case Circuit Breaker (MCCB) product line. Primary focus is to ensure function, performance margin and design robustness of MCCB products. Responsibilities include new product design and development, validating design concepts, obtaining & maintaining third party certifications, supporting product launch phases, ensuring product functional requirements, supporting resolution of yield and quality issues, performance enhancements on existing products, validating component changes, supporting cost reductions (VA/VE) efforts, addressing application issues, and production line support. The position interfaces with regional and global teams in design, manufacturing, marketing, quality, and customers. The individual will have design responsibility for select projects from inception through validation and into production implementation. In this function you will: Lead efforts to compile, study, and reconcile product requirements and standards to design, develop, validate, and document MCCB products. Identify and prioritize projects to eliminate potential design and performance issues during new product development or enhance existing product performance and margin. Develop strong technical knowledge in circuit breaker design, testing, application, and applicable governing regulatory standards (UL, CSA, IEC, NEMA, etc.). Utilize statistical quality tools to establish performance baselines and identify focus areas for product performance enhancements and robustness improvements. Perform and leverage modelling / simulation activities on component and system level to ensure robust designs and adequate performance margins. Learn and integrate Design for Six Sigma, CeTol, GD&T, simulation & modeling software, and phase-gate development processes. Maintain product listings and quickly address any third party testing non-conformances to minimize financial sales and delivery impact. Establish control plans, component & process verifications and defining critical-to-quality characteristics. Engage and collaborate with marketing, industrialization, manufacturing, project management and other key teams to ensure successful product development and launch. Utilize communication skills to support customer technical questions and provide routine updates to manager, leadership team, and engineering organization on key projects & metric performances. Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of Moon Township will be considered. Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation. Preferred qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution Experience with Six-Sigma quality tools and methodology Knowledge of circuit breakers and applicable standard General knowledge of product design for cost-effective manufacture, working knowledge of regulatory standards. Experience with engineering computer applications. Pro/Engineer Creo or similar, Excel, and computer-based simulation modeling (static stress, thermal, kinematics/dynamics, tolerances, etc.). Bilingual with fluency in English and Spanish. Position Criteria: Cross-functional teamwork and written & verbal communication skills. Fundamentals of project management.
