Job Description

Lead Designer, Industrial Design for DesignworksUSA, Inc. in Newbury Park, CA to lead creative contributor for a wide range of Industrial Design projects ranging from transportation design, consumer electronics, medical devices and commercial equipment. Provide a wide range of deliverables to different projects and clients and collaborates with Creative Directors and Associate Directors to define and articulate project short term targets and future opportunities. Responsible for interpreting and delivering concepts within projects ensuring contribution to Designwork’s (DW) mission of being the leading creative consulting agency. Lead Designer is seen as a source of deep knowledge in their area of specialization and acts as an expert in this role. Apply extensive experience in Design and specifically Industrial Design to assignments of high complexity. Develop and communicate industry-leading creative concepts. Provides creative problem solving and analysis. Generates and evaluates Industrial Design ideas based on client specifications and factors such as appearance, design-function, serviceability, materials and method engineering, application, budget, price, production costs, methods of production, and market characteristics. Integrate research and testing into the conceptualization and development process. Contribute to the development of the Studio’s culture and quality standards. Leads and initiates working collaboratively with cross functional teams and disciplines and embraces a holistic, cross-discipline design approach. Supports and/or executes strategic services such as contextual research, design strategy and design identity programs in collaboration with Creative Consulting. Presents work to both the company and the client, discusses need for modification and change. Mentor and coach team members on their way of creative development. Reads publications, attends showings, and consults with engineering, marketing, production, and sales representatives to maintain and grow an extensive knowledge base to inform all design programs. Supports and maintains relevant system documents (Time Writer) and proactively suggests own and fellow designer utilization planning.

Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design or a related field (or equivalent foreign education) plus nine (9) years of experience leveraging design principles, metrics, global alignment, methods and techniques, production processes, market research as well as commercial awareness providing high quality industry leading benchmarks of  Industrial Design content. In the alternative employer will accept Master’s Degree in Industrial Design or related field (or equivalent foreign education) and seven (7) years of experience leveraging design principles, metrics, global alignment, methods and techniques, production processes, market research as well as commercial awareness providing high quality industry leading benchmarks of  Industrial Design content.  Experience must include 7 years in the following: working with 3D surface and solid modeling software including Solidworks; Alias; Rhino; V-Red, Keyshot; Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, and Illustrator; creating innovative content utilizing various design methods, usability and ergonomic studies, and utilization of space; designing end-to-end 2D to 3D process in the industries of transportation, consumer electronics, and commercial products, which includes: opportunity framing; concept ideation; generating final production data; and supplying production support; and creating the argumentation for unique market positioning, fit to cost, and conveying commercial and consumer value.
