Job Description
Eaton is seeking a Lead Electronics Engineer for its new Connected Solutions product development team as part of the Commercial & Residential Distribution Solutions (CRDS) business. This position will be based at our Moon Township facility. (Pittsburgh, PA). Relocation assistance will be provided. Position Overview: Eaton’s Connected Solutions team is currently seeking a talented Electronics Engineer to create unique product solutions using a combination of analog and digital electronic circuit designs in support of our intelligent/connected product development programs. Responsibilities for this role are linked with Eaton’s digitalization strategy and include development of schematics and PCBA electronics hardware design, component selection, integration of firmware, documentation and product testing for applications and features in power management, communication (wireless and wired), intelligent data generation, remote control, diagnostics, IoT functionality, plus other areas. In this function you will: Lead electronic hardware development for smart, connected circuit protection devices supporting all project phases from requirements definition thru sustaining phases plus related project management tasks (timeline scheduling, cost estimation, progress tracking). Lead the design of analog and digital circuits, including power supplies, signal conditioning, and microprocessor support circuits using Eaton platform standards guidelines, industry best practices, regulatory agency compliance requirements and Design for Manufacturability input. Creates electronic schematics, PCBA layouts, PCB designs, BOMs, selects components to fit the project requirements and conducts design reviews. Participate as a core global member of project teams assigned to research, design, develop, test and/or launch new innovations; ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. Stay abreast of market trends and emerging technologies globally, with a particular emphasis on embedded and IoT cloud-connected systems, electronic hardware security and evaluates their potential impact on Eaton business. Serve as the technical bridge between electronics design and internal/external suppliers, assist with defining and qualification of electronic hardware test systems. Drive enhancement of existing products and services based on evaluations of existing and new technologies per Eaton’s strategic plans. Represent Eaton’s interests on councils and committees tasked with developing codes and standards for emerging technologies in which Eaton is investing. Perform technical evaluations of electrical components and assess opportunities to develop partnerships and/or new suppliers, prepares test procedures and product test plans. Lead product certification activities acting as the Eaton representative and prepares project technical packages - UL/CSA/FCC and other regulatory compliance bodies. Act as a technical advisor to product line managers and/or manufacturing engineers throughout the ProLaunch process and coordinates electronic hardware prototypes, pilot run samples, production launch, plus post-launch support as needed. Provide solutions and technical support to customers and sales team. Qualifications Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering/Technology from an accredited institution Minimum 3 years of experience in electrical/electronic engineering design Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future. Preferred Qualifications: 7+ years of experience in similar positions for electronic circuits design, PCBA hardware development and firmware integration into cloud-connected IoT systems Prior experience using agile/scrum/sprint hardware product development methodologies and as part of a globally-distributed team of internal/ external developers and suppliers Computer knowledge: MS Office, Familiarity with PADS, Altium and CAD design tools Prior experience in electronic hardware design for cybersecurity compliance Comfortable working in a fast-paced development team environment and demonstration of strong communication skills plus results delivery Eaton considers qualified applicants regardless of criminal histories, consistent with local laws.
