Eaton’s Corporate Technology Office (CTO) Division is currently seeking a Lead Engineer. This position is based at our Southfield, MI facility. Relocation assistance will be provided. Position Overview: The Energy Storage Systems Lead Engineer offers wide opportunities to lead market-driven research and development in Energy Storage Systems and battery technology to address modern challenges associated with increasing renewable energy penetration and electrification trends (transportation and/or stationary applications). This position is expected to serve as a technical and/or project lead on R&D projects, funded by both government and non-government programs, in the area of transportation electrification and intelligent machine, with a primary focus on projects with Energy Storage Systems/battery applications. This role is responsible for meeting the schedule, scope, cost and technical targets for all efforts under this role’s control. Additionally, the Lead Engineer is expected to contribute to technical papers and presentations as well as IP generation through authoring (or co-authoring) disclosures and patents. As a key member of the Electrification and Intelligent Machines team, the Lead Engineer is expected to develop themselves as a subject matter expert both internally and externally to Eaton. This includes attending conferences, seminars and/or consortium meetings in relevant industry to network with technical peers and stay relevant in their fields. In this role, the selected candidate will be working closely with global teams, internal stakeholders, and external partners to solve critical business problems, , develop, and advance Eaton's technologies with multi-million-dollar, funded projects; and help uncover new business opportunities. In this function you will: Serve as a technical lead and/or project lead in technology realization programs/projects utilizing our internal project execution processes, including Gate Reviews, Design Reviews, and Technical Reviews on the area of Batteries/Energy Storage Systems Contribute to the value proposition development for technical projects and programs Contribute to government proposal preparation and/or assist with project execution. May serve as technical lead in proposal preparation and/or owner of work package during project execution Support building business relationships by presenting ideas and projects, participating in ideation events, and acquiring resources and funding needed Assist in the identification of leading external partnerships, outside technologies and best practices to bring to Eaton Participate in brainstorming sessions contributing to the technology strategy for their department Participate in external open innovation events with universities and research institutes Develop as a subject matter expert through active participation in conferences, seminars and/or consortium meetings in relevant industry to network and stay current on topics in their field Innovate, invent, and challenge state-of-art design & process by securing critical intellectual properties through patents and publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals. Employment decisions are based upon job-related reasons regardless of an applicant's race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, national origin, disability, marital status, genetic information, protected veteran status, or any other status protected by law Qualifications Required (Basic) Qualifications: Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Material Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution 3+ years of industrial or entrepreneurial experience with emphasis in batteries/energy storage systems Fundamental understanding of energy storage markets, renewable energies and transportation electrification (on-ground and/or aerospace) applications, and major trends in battery markets A deep understanding of the energy-storage related challenges and opportunities inherent in monitoring, communicating within, controlling, and visualizing diverse energy storage systems This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
