Job Description
Eaton’s Vehicle Group, Power Transfer System Center of Excellence is currently seeking a Lead Engineer – Bearing to join our team. This position can be based at any Eaton US facility or US based remote home office. Position Overview: The Lead Engineer will serve as a subject matter expert and mentor for all bearing types across multiple product platforms. Primary responsibility will be providing design and analysis for cylindrical, taper, roller and ball bearings across the Powertrain, Engine Air Management and Electric Vehicle spaces. Projects may be related to new and current product, reliability and warranty analysis, failure analysis, VA/VE, Cost-out, supplier technical interactions, supplier assessments reviews, change control (design and process risk assessments), manufacturing and testing. The incumbent shall be self-directed and independent, performing assignments with minimal guidance, while understanding the business impact of different solutions. The engineer shall provide leadership, influencing the work group and peers and utilize specialized knowledge to lead and/or support innovation projects and incorporate external trends into relevant projects. In this function you will: Product Development: Provide bearing design, analysis, testing and related manufacturing process recommendations to improve quality, performance, cost reduction, product reliability, and/or standardization through analysis of designs and problem-solving techniques. Engineering Process: Participate in the creation, implementation, and administration of vehicle group policies, procedures, and work instructions. Can incorporate processes and process improvements to area of expertise to aide in time to market. Drive personal and regional process and knowledge development. Understand design, development, and failure analysis through assigned engineering projects. Apply fundamental engineering practices and decision making for problem solving. Leadership: Embrace and drives the Eaton Business System processes that apply to assigned projects. Review and reports on quality metrics and/or test results through engineering reports and written correspondence to ensure timely and effective communication with managers and peers. Uses the Eaton Leadership Model to drive personal growth and development. Knowledge: Apply advanced tools in problem solving and project management to solve technical issues and lead projects. Application of processes such as Design for Six Sigma or Lean Engineering. Use innovative methods, generates IP and Publications in support of business needs. Innovation: Suggest alternative or novel methodologies or techniques to achieving desired results. Serve as a consultant to others as assigned, providing technical information and engineering recommendations that assist with various projects and training purposes. Point of Contact with Universities or technical communities with respect to a specific product / technology Business Acumen: Maintain understanding of the varied and balanced needs of cost competitiveness, product reliability / robustness, innovation, and constraints. Local expert in assigned product / process. Health and Safety: Comply with requirements of the Quality and Environmental Management Systems. Minimum two (2) years’ bearing design and selection experience Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship both now and in the future Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering Position Criteria: A willingness and ability to travel, domestically and internationally, approximately 25% of each work year.
