Eaton’s Electrical Critical Power & Digital Infrastructure division is currently seeking a Lead Engineer – Embedded Software to join our team. This position is based at our Raleigh, NC facility or can be based remotely. All candidates must currently reside within the United States and must work out of a United States remote location. Relocation benefits will be provided for those interested within the United States only. The Lead Engineer - Digital Controls and Embedded Software is responsible for leading global teams to develop embedded software for CPDI technology development projects and power conversion products. The lead engineer will also develop portions of the software. Projects include developing software for proof-of-concept technology demonstrators, new products, new features, product enhancements and bug fixes. In this function you will: Lead global engineering teams in the development, testing and release of embedded Linux software for technology development projects and new product development projects (uninterruptible power supplies, energy storage, and other CPDI products) while meeting schedule, cost, and product performance goals. Evaluate business requirements to determine potential solutions. Develops overall software architecture and requirements for technology development and new product development projects. Architect new features and develop requirements. Write and maintain functional specifications of design solutions. Create project plans, work breakdown structure, schedule estimates for upcoming software projects while managing ambiguity. Monitor the activities on the software development and adapt plans to meet the schedule. Interface closely with cross-functional team members to create high quality product. Lead process improvement initiatives. Work with cross-functional team to implement new processes. Analyze, design, code and test software used in uninterruptible power systems and other power quality products. Develop high quality, high performing software that meets coding standards and product design requirements. Develops test plans and monitors test results. Document software components and interactions using flowcharts, diagrams, code comments, and code snippets. Perform software design reviews, code reviews for other members of the team. Formally releases embedded software following company procedures. Apply best engineering practices, good judgement and decision making for advanced technical problem solving. Mentor fellow team members on new technologies, architecture principles, and good coding practices. Qualifications Required (Basic) Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or related Engineering degree from an accredited institution with a minimum of five (5) years industry work experience in software development OR Master's Degree in Electrical or related Engineering degree from an accredited institution with a minimum of three (3) years industry work experience in software development OR Ph.D. in Electrical or related engineering degree from an accredited institution with a minimum of one (1) year industry work experience in software development. Preferred Qualifications: Minimum of three (3) years of experience on C/C++ application development. Experience with Yocto build environment. Experience with multi-core embedded systems. Solid understanding of cybersecurity and/or cryptography. Demonstrated competency using or designing systems communicating with industrial networking protocols (e.g. HTTP, TCP/IP, MQTT, Modbus, BACnet, CAN). Experience using SDLC management tools in a team environment (e.g. Jira, Git, etc.). Experience leading global software projects. Experience with Agile development methodologies and concepts. Eaton provides a competitive total rewards package commensurate with applicable skills, knowledge, and experience and consistent with internal and external market practices.
