Eaton’s Research Lab (ERL) has an exciting and rewarding position of a Lead Engineer in Power Conversion to support research and technology development in emerging technology programs. This position will be based at our Menomonee Falls WI. Relocation assistance will be provided if needed. Position Overview: The job function includes developing and testing innovative power conversion technologies and identifying market opportunities for the new technologies, support businesses to evaluate market studies and develop business cases. The individual will also identify internal and external funding resource, support discussions with national labs and university leaders to be on top of the key technologies identified. A key role will be to establish customer relationships, present ideas and projects to Eaton business leaders and ERL leadership. Ability to communicate complicated technologies concisely to a variety of different audiences (business leaders, technical colleagues and lay people). A good blend of technical knowledge and business acumen is required to be successful in this position. In this role you will: Serve as a technical lead and/or project lead in technology realization programs/projects utilizing our internal project execution processes, including Gate Reviews, Design Reviews, and Technical Reviews. Be responsible for the execution of milestones that are critical to the project. The technical lead coordinates activities with other engineering resources on the team to ensure the timely completion of the project milestones. Be responsible for creating, executing and tracking all the milestones for the entire project. Assigns roles and responsibilities for the project team members. Participate in brainstorming sessions contributing to the technology strategy for their department. Contribute to the value proposition development for technical projects and programs· Contribute to government proposal preparation and/or assist with project execution. May serve as technical lead in proposal preparation and/or owner of work package during project execution· Support building business relationships by presenting ideas and projects, participating in ideation events and acquiring resources and funding needed· Assist in the identification of leading external partnerships, outside technologies and best practices to bring to Eaton Participate in external open innovation events with universities and research institutes· Develop as a subject matter expert through active participation in conferences, seminars and/or consortium meetings in relevant industry to network and stay current on topics in their field· Actively contribute to IP generation through authoring or co-authoring disclosures and patents· Effectively apply appropriate processes, system and tools (ex: DFSS) · Mentor Jr staff and consult internal business and engineering customers When we embrace the different ideas, perspectives and backgrounds that make each of us unique, we — as individuals and as a company — are stronger. Qualifications Required (Basic) Qualifications: PhD degree from an accredited institution 3+ years of industrial or entrepreneurial experience Preferred Qualifications Experience in low and medium voltage power conversion, High frequency transformers and power systems engineering, including creating specifications, defining application space, designing technical solution concepts, and building and testing prototypes to validate models/hypotheses and documenting results. Expertise in the following areas: Motor Drive technology, drive/converter topologies, high-power electronics; electric machines and controls; electrification of vehicles, energy storage, and grid connected converters; alternative power generation and distribution. Experience in modeling power converters and power systems using simulation tools (example: MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, Simplorer, PSIM and/or PSCAD). Experience in power electronics electromechanical packaging techniques; understanding of the effects of parasitic capacitance/inductance on circuit performance, familiarity with techniques for the minimization and/or control of parasitics, familiarity with voltage creepage and clearance requirements and various insulation and interconnection techniques; familiarity with various power electronic component cooling techniques, etc. Experience with real time simulators such as DSPACE, OPAL-RT and/or RTDS.
